Jul. 23rd, 2015 01:18 pmMy sister's surgery starts at 1:40. I don't expect to hear anything until at least 7:00 and quite possibly later (I will post an update here after I call and email all the people I've promised to). She's supposed to spend the night in the hospital and possibly longer, depending.
We all got to bed quite late last night. Scott and I kept trying to convince Cordelia to go shopping for clothes because everything she's got is torn or stained or frayed or too small. She's been wearing the same clothes (even to bed) for two or three days straight because she's not willing to wear anything else she owns. That's not so terrible if we never, ever go anywhere or have people over, but...
I finally cornered her and made her look at online clothing companies. We ordered her some pants and some shorts and one pair of pajamas (there wasn't much in terms of pajamas that they had that she liked). The biggest difficulty is that, of the companies I have bookmarked, only one actually sells things in her size. All the others are specifically plus sized clothes. (Well, there's Land's End, but they're hugely expensive, and the quality of their products has plummeted.) Cordelia was astonished to discover that I qualify as 'petite.' She thought that should cover more than just height.
Scott's FATE game ran last night. We were down two players. One player is taking a prolonged leave to deal with family stuff (he has a fourteen month old daughter). The other player was just gone for this week. His kids were visiting grandparents, and he and his wife wanted to take a short trip.
I find that, in the game, I'm coming to conclusions that I'm pretty sure are right but that the other characters argue with. I can't tell if my conclusions are based on knowing how stories are shaped in general, knowing how Scott thinks in particular, or just being genre savvy. Of course, none of these factors necessarily mean that I'm right. My character is in her fifties and very experienced with the sort of things our group is dealing with, so I'm not worried that my conclusions are OOC. I just wish I could support them more logically.
We're thinking that we might go out later today to look into getting me a new phone. Scott's actually worried that my current one is so old that they might not be able to transfer my information. I just don't know. I like my current phone a lot. It does exactly what I need it to do most of the time. My occasional problems with sending text messages and having them arrive days or weeks later seems to be a Verizon thing rather than intrinsic to my phone. The issues that are solidly problems with my phone are the way it occasionally turns itself off and the fact that it can't handle the sorts of things that other people try to send me in terms of images files. I don't know that the battery necessarily lasts longer than Scott's and Cordelia's do because I do so very much less with my phone than they do. Charging once or twice a week when I only use the phone for about ten to fifteen minutes a day probably isn't better than charging daily when using the phone for hours a day.
But before we go out, I have to finish my Metanews work. I have half a dozen links left to deal with, and then I have to post. That's probably an hour and a half of work (possibly less but not likely less than an hour). Maybe I should leave those links for next week's post and just deal with what we've already got. I don't know.

Date: 2015-07-23 11:22 pm (UTC)Those sizes are pretty much exact in the waist and a bit loose in the hips.
She likes knit pants and jeggings but doesn't like jeans or courduroys (I think it's more how they're cut than the fabric). She has a strong preference for things with real pockets. She likes turquoise and teal that's on the blue side. She's not as keen on royal blue or pink (though if she must get pink, the more it shades toward red or purple the better). She's very much opposed to black.
My guess, with regard to shirts, is that a women's small would fit, but I can't be completely sure until she lets me measure her. She's adamant that her shirts must be opaque (and I agree) and tends to favor relatively heavy cotton t-shirts. I'm not sure what I can get her to accept in the way of long sleeved shirts, but I expect we'll browse online again.

Date: 2015-07-24 01:55 am (UTC)When the Young Lady was still a kid, I would stalk Lands End for sales. LL Bean doesn't tend to mark their stuff down enough to be much of a sale, except maybe for outerwear and accessories at the end of the season. Old Navy is not bad, especially for casual wear.
She was tallish and heavy, so I had rather the opposite problem.

Date: 2015-07-24 02:23 am (UTC)We did get Cordelia some Land's End dresses on sale at Sears when she was about six, and those were decent.

Date: 2015-07-24 11:32 am (UTC)The main thing I have bought from Lands End in recent years has been tops - tank tops, ladies'-style T shirts - and nighties/nightshirts, which I prefer to PJs. The softness of the cotton knit is mostly unchanged, and I love it.
Nowadays we both buy stuff on deep discount from higher-end places (Talbots, J. Jill, Eddie Bauer) but you would need to know her sizes.
Would Lanes End's sport knit pants suit her? They have pockets. They're pricey at full price but they phase colors out from time to time, and then they go way down. There are pink ones on sale right now for $9.99. The corduroy ones are very soft, too.
