I'm a lot more awake and coherent than I expected to be at this point. We got home a bit after 4:00. The compression top they gave me itches like hell, but I'm stuck with it until Sunday evening (which is also when I'm allowed to wash).

A lot of the surgery preparation hurt more than I expected it would, unfortunately. I think I actually yelled when the anesthetic came through IV right before surgery. I don't remember that from gall bladder surgery.

They took three lymph nodes. We'll hear about the pathology report on those some time next week. I have my fingers crossed that they'll come back clean. I'd really rather not have to do chemo.

We haven't managed to reach my father or my aunt and uncle. We left messages, but who knows?

I can currently mostly use both hands. My right hand hurts a lot because that's where they put the IV, so my left hand is more useful at present even though I'm supposed to be exceedingly careful what I do with it.

I'm hungry now, but I waited longer than I should have. It's late to eat much of anything, and I'm having trouble swallowing anything that's even sort of dry, so I don't think bread is a good option just now. I'm not really sure what would be a good idea. Of course, I could stay up later than normal and eat something now. Except that I'm pretty darned tired.

I'm sorry that it was so painful, but I'm glad that your surgery went well.

Sympathy for the pain and aggravation, but I'm glad to hear you're doing mostly well and that the surgery went well. Wish I were closer to help, but sending good thoughts at least. :)

Yay for getting through the surgery! You are awesome, and you're gonna get through whatever follow-up they recommend like a bad-ass.

I had minor surgery to remove a polyp years back, and the nurse who was supposed to place my IV actually blew out the vein on my left hand, so she had to put it in my right. So I ended up with both hands sore and bruised. And the only thing I remember about getting grommets in my ears as a three-year-old is how wickedly painful the needles in my hand and arse were before I got knocked out. I know anaesthesia saves a hell of a lot of pain, but sometimes for small/minimally invasive things, I think it's the worst part. It's certainly the bit I hate most about the dentist.

If they do it right, it had best be the worst part - you're not supposed to feel the rest. (Having had a little dental work done when oops, the anesthesia hadn't worked, I will take the anesthesia pain ANY road...and I'm really sensitive to needles in my mouth, but.)

Oh, absolutely, I agree with you on the pain side of things, but I was including things like anxiety about the procedure, the noise of the drill, going under general anaesthesia, etc.

May all nodes and margins be clear, and I hope your post-surgery recovery is swift.

I'm glad the surgery went well. So much sympathy on the washing ban, but you will get through it.

Glad you're doing better than expected. When I had my surgery, the IV really hurt at first. I complained and they redid it and it hurt a lot less.
