the_rckIt's picture day today at Cordelia's school. I put the order in online because Cordelia had reports, from last year, of people who took checks in and ended up not ever getting the pictures they ordered. We've never had that problem in years of sending checks, but ordering online wasn't a problem, so I did it.
I took an Ativan and a hydrocodone at 4:00 yesterday so that I'd have time to see how they affected me. I wasn't nodding off sleepy or can't safely cross the street sleepy, but I was out of it enough that I couldn't make myself focus on anything. Since Scott didn't have to go in early this morning after all, he went to curriculum night in my place. He'd never been before. I think he was astonished by just how thoroughly boring it was. Somehow, he managed not to bring home any flyers. I think he must have decided they were worthless. Well, that or he completely missed that they existed which, knowing him, is possible.
I've been trying more music on YouTube the last couple of days, all things that Amazon thinks I'll like. Some of it is obviously, very obviously, not my sort of thing. Some of it sounds pretty and ought to work for me but doesn't. Mediaeval Baebes, for example, sound great except for there being no life in their music. It's all kind of drifting in a way that I find off putting. Escala sounds intriguing, but I'm ignorant enough of instrumental music that it all very quickly sounds the same. 4 Bitchin' Babes made me laugh, but I don't actually remember any of the jokes, just that they seemed to be aimed at women my age, and their voices didn't appeal to me. I'd be willing to try more of their stuff from the library, but the library doesn't have any.
Speaking of the library, they don't seem to be planning to purchase When Marnie Was There. Usually, this close to a release date, the title appears in the catalog, and that one is not there. I'm surprised by that, and I've asked them to consider buying it. I very much doubt that I'm the only one who wants to see it.
I almost got that CD that won't play ready to send back, but we seem to be out of clear packing tape. We've got some opaque stuff-- green with candy canes-- which isn't at all useful in this case. The box I'm using is exactly CD sized, so I really need clear tape, or the address won't be visible.
I haven't gotten very far with season three of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. I think a big factor is that I'm utterly indifferent to Phryne/Jack and am finding Dot/Hugh actively off putting. I'm not very interested in mystery shows for the mystery, so that doesn't leave me much.
Cordelia's science and math teacher put up something online for parents to sign up for conferences. She didn't double book, but she also didn't have a place for us to tell her which child is ours, so I'm not sure how that will work. I don't share a last name with Cordelia, so she can't go by that. I suppose she can email me and ask. That just seems like a lot of work given how many kids this is likely to be true for.
It's frustrating-- When I cc Scott on scheduling emails I send to his mother and sister, they delete his address deliberately when they respond. Scott's mother just responded to my message about my radiology appointment, which I send to her, Scott, and Scott's sister, with a message to me and to Scott's sister. She has to have deliberately taken Scott of the list, and I can't imagine why she would. It makes no sense to me. Does she think he wouldn't want to know or shouldn't be involved in the discussion? It's not like he doesn't know I had surgery and will be having radiation, and it's not the sort of women's health issue that I'd expect her to think needed to be censored in mixed company.

Date: 2015-09-22 11:24 pm (UTC)I think the books have done fine with Dot and Hugh by emphasizing that there are a lot of things Dot considers necessary to do before they marry. The books frequently have her working on her trousseau, and I seem to recall her commenting that it would take her another two or three years to have everything ready. There's also the question of whether or not Hugh is in a position to afford to get married. I got the impression, in the books, that he might want to wait until he gets a promotion. They're both so very young that I have trouble seeing it as something to hurry into, especially with the issue of religion and of keeping relatives happy. (I suppose the question of sex might come up, but I feel like they can deal with that one way or another without rushing to get married.)
