Drat. There's something wrong with the dryer. Scott cleaned out the ventilation pipe on Saturday, and I'm really hoping he just knocked something loose that will be easy to fix.

Cordelia put her clothes in to dry some time between 7:00 and 7:45. About half an hour ago (so 11:30), I realized that the dryer was still running. I went downstairs and shut it off. The clothes were dry but cool to the touch when they ought to be (going by the settings on the dryer) hot. I'm more concerned by the lack of heat than by the fact that it kept running. We can go downstairs and turn the dryer off. Setting an alarm will make that fairly straightforward. We'd just have to time laundry so that we weren't leaving the house or going to bed while the dryer was running.

The dryer is about 18 years old, and replacing it would be an expense we really would have difficulty with. I also strongly suspect that we wouldn't be able to find anything nearly as durable as a replacement.

ETA: Scott says he turned off the gas when he took down the ventilation pipe and probably forgot to turn it back on, so that part is easy to fix. The dryer running for four hours... We'll see, I suppose.
