My sister and brother came over around 5:00 last night. The five of us went to Saica, a nearby Japanese restaurant. Cordelia ordered two California rolls. She was really eager to go so that she could have those (and when she ate her leftovers today, she complained that there wasn't enough). We ended up going to Kroger for mochi after dinner because my sister had never had them. We picked up a few other things, too.

I felt not so great this morning. I ended up taking an Ativan to see if that would help. It did a little, but I'm not entirely sure that there's not something else going on. My digestive system has been really, really cranky all week. It's not quite an IBS flare, but it's heading in that direction.

I got to my appointment today just fine. I took a cab, and it came quickly, so I was about half an hour early. I was in the small waiting room again, and there were a lot of us there. They were running late, so it was fifteen minutes past my appointment time when they took me in. Then they told me they needed to do a bunch of extra things so that the appointment was going to take considerably longer than expected. I still got out of there before 3:00, but it was a near thing.

The senior radiation technician strongly recommended that I spend some time braless, with my breast exposed to air. I pointed out that going braless hurts and doesn't actually result in air getting to my incision because the stupid thing is on the underside of my breast and ends up pressed against my chest when I let everything hang out.

Then the cab company said it would take an hour to pick me up. There's no way I can wait inside for a cab because things are set up so that nobody can see any part of the parking lot from inside the building. It was windy and cold, and I doubted my ability to stand for an hour even if it hadn't been cold. So I took the bus. Between waiting for the bus and walking up the hill from the bus stop, I was outside for about half an hour. I was pretty winded by the time I got home (it was cold enough that I was concerned about asthma issues), and then Cordelia yelled at me for not telling her I wouldn't be home when she got home. I had called, but it never occurred to her to check her phone. It was not a good day, and I am not convinced of my ability to easily manage the getting home part of things on the days I have appointments.

I'm also having a lot of trouble getting myself to eat much of anything. I couldn't face lunch before my appointment, and breakfast ended up being some banana chips, a couple of slices of cheese, and a piece of cake. I had some chicken and rice and part of a banana about 3:30. Dinner was a piece of bread and a couple of mochi.

Scott has already gone to bed. He's scheduled to work 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. If he's up to it, we're going to try to go to Kalamazoo for brunch with my sister, brother, and aunts. He knows I want to go, so he's probably going to push for it, but I'm not sure it's a good idea.

Cordelia is going to go to a 'haunted corn maze' with friends tomorrow evening. There will be three or four girls from her class going as a group with one of the other girls' mothers. These are all girls who've been at Cordelia's school since kindergarten, so we actually know the other families at least a bit.

Scott came home today and said that his boss has him down on the schedule as on vacation all next week. Scott doesn't remember scheduling for that, but he would have done it in January, so it's entirely possible that he did and just forgot due to all of the crap that's been coming down on us the last few months. He usually does schedule a week in October so that he can have a break during cider season. I just wish we'd known this before. I have people all set to drive me to and from radiation appointments next week, and he'll be available to do it instead. Assuming it's not some sort of mistake that his supervisor is going to correct or something.

I've used the unscented shampoo and conditioner (Whole Foods house brand) twice now, and I'm unimpressed. The shampoo doesn't leave my hair feeling at all clean, and it's very difficult to work through my hair. I end up using a lot more of it than I would of my normal shampoo. The conditioner is also hard to work through my hair and is even harder to rinse out. I think I may want to try a different brand.

What brand of shampoo do you normally use?

I use Suave Daily Clarifying and have liked it and it was easy to work in/out. There's also goat milk shampoo although I haven't found it left my hair feeling completely clean.

If you do need a ride, or even just a ride home, please try calling or texting me -- I might be able to do it, and I'd be glad to help out.

I don't know if this would work for you, but I've found that when I am having trouble getting myself to eat, soup works really well. If I can get in a spoonful or two, it's nutritious and gets me interested in eating more. But that might just be me -- I don't know if it would work for anyone else.

Could I ask if you tried the Desert Essence conditioner that I dropped off that one time? That's the brand that I use, and I really like it a lot. I think you said it wouldn't work for you, so probably it's not an option, but I was curious because I didn't remember the details.

I am also curious what you are getting when you get mochi from Kroger. My family buys squares of refrigerated pounded rice that are called mochi. We cut them into one-inch squares and then bake them in a very hot oven, and they puff up into chewy little pillows that are unusual and good. But I've also seen "mochi ice cream" at the store, which I've never tried. But it makes me think that there is more than one thing that goes by the name "mochi."
