There’s not much new here except that I’m trying to get used to the idea of not needing to go anywhere this afternoon. I have a couple of emails I need to send and some library DVDs to watch. Oh, and, of course, some LJ and DW comments to answer.
I discovered last night that the hydrocodone makes a noticeable difference in my pain levels and quality of sleep at night. I’m less sure about during the day because today is the first time in a while that I’ve taken some during the day.
I think that I’m probably not going to be putting on a shirt at all for the next few days except when I need to leave the house. I tried wearing one, a very loose one, today, and it hurt too much. My nightgowns seem to cause less pain, and I can wear my fuzzy, warm bathrobe over that. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can get away with dressing like that on Thursday when we go to Scott’s parents’ place.
I think I’m going to have to point out to Scott that it’s now okay for him to call on his second break (usually between 1:00 and 2:30 some time). He stopped because of the likelihood that I would be in treatment when he was free to call, and I miss hearing from him. We never talk long, just a minute or two, but it’s nice to hear his voice and know that he’s surviving the day.
Scott is a little afraid he’ll get into trouble for not calling work Friday night to see if they needed him on Saturday. I told him that, if they give him a hard time, he should point out that I had a last minute treatment that he needed to be present for.
Cordelia has to read mysteries for a class assignment. She picked one herself and had the other assigned. She decided in advance that she doesn’t like mysteries, and these books have done nothing to change her mind. The one she picked was both a mystery and a fantasy, one of the Sisters Grimm books, but it was third or fourth in the series and so she was missing context. I suspect that the fact that she was very determined not to like the book was also a factor.
The assigned book is one of John Grisham’s Theodore Boone books. Cordelia complained to me that Theodore is too perfect and just too much, so I explained the concept of Mary Sues to her so that she had a label to put on what was annoying her about him. (For those not familiar with the series, Cordelia tells me that Theodore is a high school student who is also a practicing lawyer and class president and leader of his Boy Scout patrol. I expect there are violet eyes or some such, too.) I did explain that there are two quite different things that people mean when they talk about Mary Sues, but I focused mostly on the too, too unbelievably perfect characters. I pointed out that that doesn’t always mean they’re not fun to read about or watch (I may have mentioned Batman) but that it can mean the book/movie/whatever is pretty terrible.

Date: 2015-11-26 11:15 pm (UTC)It really is nice to be able to touch base with someone I care about. That brief moment feels important, like it somehow reminds me that they exist and are really in my life.
