Scott got home about 7:45. I’d had about three hours of sleep, and he’d had none at all. They’d told him to take four ibuprofen as soon as he got home, and he did. Then I had to bully him into eating something to protect his stomach.

He does have unfilled prescriptions. I texted his sister who said yesterday that she will be coming through town today, on her way to a play in Chelsea. She just left with the prescrptions; that’s the only reason I’m not still in bed. She said that she could get the prescriptions filled. She also asked if her fourteen year old could come and hang out with Cordelia all afternoon. I said yes to the help and no to the visit. I just don’t see any way that that could be a good thing.

Scott said he put the prescriptions 'on the couch,' but I didn’t find them there. I found them on the kitchen table. He’s got three medications, and they all make sense for a kidney stone. They’re all available as generics, so I’m hopeful that I won’t be asking Scott’s sister to put up a lot of money (we have no cash. I’ll write her a check when I know how much the meds cost). He’s also got a note excusing him from work tomorrow.

Scott thinks that the break through pain, the bit where the morphine wasn’t nearly adequate, was because they’d been moving him around a lot in order to do the cat scan.

I had a headache when Scott’s arrival at home woke me, but I took some Tylenol, and that plus a couple of hours more sleep really helped. I’m drinking coffee now and planning to try to stay up for a while. I will have to disturb Scott just long enough to retrieve some clothes from the bedroom. Unfortunately, the only way to get pants, socks and underwear is to sit on the edge of the bed on his side. The dresser is too close to the bed for it to be possible to open it while standing between it and the bed. There’s barely enough room to open it while sitting on the bed. (When we were house hunting, this was the only house we found that we could afford, that didn’t have major, major problems, that had a room big enough for our bed. I guess it’s just evidence that most people don’t require king sized beds in order not to have their feet hang off the end.)

I’m trying to decide if I care enough to watch a bit more of one of the library DVDs that’s due today and can’t be renewed. Scott and I got halfway through Kingsman, and I really don’t think it’s a good enough movie to merit waking Scott to watch the rest. I can’t think of any movie that good. Especially given that we can buy movies if we think they’re really, really good. This one just isn’t. The other movie is My Fair Lady. I’ve read the Shaw play it’s based on and either a novelization of the movie or a version of the script in book form. I forget which. I was curious to actually see it, but I never got more than ten minutes in during the course of this week, so I guess I wasn’t all that enthusiastic. Somehow, turning on the TV, even when I have things I want to watch, feels like a huge chore, and I can seldom find the energy to do it.

There are a couple of books due next week that I was thinking about returning today. I don’t think it’s worth disturbing Scott by digging for them when they’re not actually due yet, however. I just am pretty certain I’m not going to finish them. One of them, I’m puzzled by— It’s Felicia Day’s book, and I was reading along and then, suddenly, went, "I can’t," and put the book down. I haven’t picked it up again in over two weeks. I don’t have a concrete reason— Nothing terrible happened in the book. The style is extremely readable. I like Felicia Day.

The other book is a nineteenth century book written by Charles Babbage that I got through interlibrary loan. I really wanted to read it, but I keep choosing other things to pick up and read. It’s a bit denser than I’m really ready for just now. I never got past the preface, written by the editor, which pissed me off by claiming that people are completely wrong to consider Ada Lovelace anything special at all, that all of the things she’s credited with were actually done by/written by other people, all men, of course.
