Mar. 10th, 2016 11:59 amI have completely failed to do the things that I wanted to get done before I head out for PT (I have just enough time before then to write and post this. At least, I hope so). I really wanted to get to the crap in the basement, but I’m physically exhausted, and coffee and food haven’t helped. I just couldn’t manage more than doing the dishes and moving a few things so that they won’t be in the cleaning lady’s way. I probably should leave her a note explaining why I didn’t get to the basement this week. I told her I might not, but her English isn’t great, and I’m not sure she understood that I was talking about more than just not getting to it that particular day.
What I’d really like to do is to go back to bed. Unfortunately, there won’t be any point when I can do that until after dinner. Well, I could skip dinner. That’s kind of tempting. But the cleaning lady will already be here when I get back from PT, and she’ll stay until at least 4:30 and possibly later.
The automated system at the medical clinic I go to has suddenly decided that I’m past due for a pneumonia vaccination. I’m perfectly willing to get one. I’m just puzzled that this came out of nowhere. I was on there last week, and it said nothing about that, but now I’m past due. I sent a note to my doctor to ask about it. I was under the impression that the vaccination was recommended for people at age 50, and I’m not quite 49 yet. I have asked my doctor, in the past, if I should get it, but the answer has always been that it’s not necessary. Maybe they’ve changed the guidelines and now want people with asthma to get it, regardless of age? I’m kind of inclined, if I go in for the pneumonia vaccine, to get the shingles vaccine at the same time if I can. That’s not due until I’m 50, but I’m close, and my health has always been pretty lousy. It would be my luck to get shingles a month before I turn 50.
We watched Agents of SHIELD last night. There’s a kind of tug of war between Scott and Cordelia on that because it airs on Tuesdays at 9, and she has to head for bed at 9. She doesn’t want us to watch it without her, but Scott wants very badly to watch it immediately. He says he’d be more than happy to watch each episode twice so that he can watch it with Cordelia, too. She’s not willing to accept that solution.
There are only two shows that Cordelia is interested in watching with us— Agents of SHIELD and Supergirl. I tried to get her interested in Agent Carter since she likes the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general, but she hasn’t been willing to try even one episode. I think she’d probably enjoy The Flash, too, but she’s also not willing to try that.

Date: 2016-03-10 05:15 pm (UTC)I quite liked the new AOS. I'm most glad that Ward is still around, in whatever capacity. I don't watch the others, but a friend of mine is pushing me to watch Supergirl.
Take care!

Date: 2016-03-10 10:36 pm (UTC)I think the main vaccine to try to track is when you're due for DTAP boosters. The protection from those only lasts a few years. The last I knew, the recommendation was to get vaccinated again every ten years because that's when the tetanus protection wears off and that's the most likely thing to give an adult problems. Updating one's vaccination against pertussis (whooping cough) is more of a protection for other people as it doesn't usually make otherwise healthy adults particularly sick, just enough to seem like a cold with a bad cough that's not enough to be worth staying home. It's just that it can kill babies and older folks.
I'm interested in Ward as a character, and I'm quite glad that they kept him a villain (he didn't interest me much before that). I'm curious to see where the new character goes and how much of Ward is involved. I never quite bonded with the character of Coulson, so I'm more interested in everyone else.
I really like Supergirl. It's got a lot of female characters who are different from each other without being stereotypes or enemies. It's also largely cheerful without overlooking real difficulties (that is, the endings aren't always unmixed victories, and characters have to make difficult choices and deal with repercussions). Oh, and the guy playing James Olsen is excellent.

Date: 2016-03-10 10:23 pm (UTC)Of course, I'm actually just as happy to have the TV off most of the time, so I'm not a great person to consult on the subject. My husband isn't comfortable unless he's got some sort of show playing either on the TV or on his laptop.
Of course, watching Agents of SHIELD the next day gives me a chance to see spoilers which makes the whole thing more pleasant for me. Maybe I should mention that to Scott...

Date: 2016-03-10 10:18 pm (UTC)My suspicion is that the computerized record system has just suddenly registered that I have asthma but have not been given any sort of pneumonia vaccine. I had to look at the footnotes, but asthma is considered a reason to get the vaccine, even in childhood. I've asked about the vaccine a few times in the last dozen years, and my doctors have always told me that I don't need it. My husband has had it because he got pneumonia a couple of years running, but nobody has previously suggested that I need it.

Date: 2016-03-11 03:39 pm (UTC)I have really enjoyed a bunch of animated superhero series, however. Teen Titans (but not Teen Titans, Go!), Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, Batman Beyond, and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (but not Avengers Assemble). I will actually rewatch those.
I think that, most of the time, when I deal with superhero stuff, I want to know why the world is so much like ours. I think that the presence of people with powers would alter the flow of history and of technological development a lot. I tend to pick at world building if any bit of my attention isn't engaged.
