Mar. 12th, 2016 08:22 pmScott and I ended up not turning off our light until 1 a.m. I have no idea why we did that. We were both exhausted, and I was rereading a book, and he was rewatching YouTube videos. We ended up sleeping in until around 11. That’s later than I like because it throws off my meal and medication schedule. (It doesn’t entirely matter when I take my morning dose of Wellbutrin, but I have to take the next one about four hours later, and my doctor doesn’t want me taking that after about 3 because she’s afraid it will keep me awake when I go to bed at 10:30 or 11. I doubt it will given that I can nap after taking the morning dose, but… whatever.)
Part of staying up so late was that Disney Channel had a couple of episodes of Star Wars: Rebels that we hadn’t seen, and we stayed up for those because we didn’t trust the DVR. The episodes were fun. I’m not sure that I shouldn’t have skipped the second one and gone to bed. The library got all of season one on DVD, so I’m hopeful that they’ll get season two that way.
We watched Girl Meets World earlier in the evening. Cordelia still likes the show a lot, but even she is getting irritated by the love triangle. I mean, the kids are being as mature as thirteen year olds are ever likely to be, more so actually. It’s just that the romance is kind of a distraction from the parts of the show that interest us. And I’m kind of in the camp of thinking that Riley/Maya would be better than either of the het pairings. Just maybe not at age 13.
I managed to wash and dry a load of laundry yesterday and load and run the dishwasher. Today, I emptied the dishwasher, put away my laundry, and baked Scott’s birthday cake. He decided yesterday that he’s well enough to appreciate the cake now (his birthday was 24 February, but he was very sick that day).
Scott had somehow managed to convince himself that he could work the day before his colonoscopy. Now that I’ve pointed out that he really, really can’t, he’s even less enthusiastic about the whole thing. Work gave him a reprimand and 'first warning' over the sick day he took in February because he took it two weeks before he was allowed another sick day. They told him that it should have been a reprimand and 'final warning' but that they took pity on him because he was so close to having a new one. But he’s going to need three days in April and one day this month for medical appointments. He’s hoping to use vacation days, but it’s quite possible that they won’t give him those particular days.
I sorted my stories on AO3 by word count, and once I put aside Rheotaxis which is nearly 200000 word but still a WIP, I’ve written four stories longer than the 7500 word minimum for
wipbigbang. That’s out of fifty five posted stories. Two of them, the longest two at 16500 and 12000 words, are things I needed extensions for, but even with the extensions, the writing period was less than the WIP Big Bang allows. The shortest of the four, at a bit over 8000 words, was written for an exchange and finished on a deadline of about a month’s writing time. The last of the four stories, I can’t remember how long it took me to write because I wrote it entirely independent of exchanges/challenges and deadlines. I might have taken days. I might have taken months. I’m about 95% sure I didn’t take years, but I just don’t remember.
At the other end, I’ve written six stories of less than 1000 words (three of those less than 500 words). Then there are ten stories between 1000 and 2000 words. I’m pretty sure that between 1000 and 6500 words is my general natural length. There are two stories between 6500 and 7500 words, so it doesn’t seem to be a length I’m apt to write.

Date: 2016-03-13 07:03 pm (UTC)Disney Channel is very much aimed at tween girls and has limited advertising. That's all stuff for other Disney products/shows and occasional 'Such and such is a proud sponsor of' messages.
Disney XD is aimed at tween boys and airs actual paid ads for non-Disney products. XD gets all the superhero related stuff and things like Rebels and Phineas and Ferb which we are interested in seeing. We're just not sufficiently interested to pay another however many dollars a month to get XD and two or three dozen other channels that we'd never watch at all.
Disney is also really, really terrible about not releasing its shows on DVD. I was surprised and very happy to see all of season one of Rebels on DVD because I didn't expect it. Some other shows (Phineas and Ferb, Ultimate Spiderman, just about any of the Disney Channel sitcoms) have had an occasional DVD issued with a handful of scattered episodes. When Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes first came out on DVD, they jumbled the order of the episodes sufficiently that some of the arcs didn't make sense and got spoiled by having the outcome shown before the set up.

Date: 2016-03-13 08:10 pm (UTC)yeah, I can't justify the cost of cable anymore, I just don't watch TV live, don't have time! or when i do have time, I do other things!

Date: 2016-03-14 02:22 am (UTC)I wrote Phineas and Ferb one year for Yuletide, before the fandom got to be too big. That was a 2nd Dimension story because that was what my recipient wanted.
I think that it would have been very interesting if the folks making Phineas and Ferb wanted to do more with the 2nd Dimension (so many open possibilities!), and I'd have loved to see Dr Doofenschmirtz's further adventures as a high school teacher.

Date: 2016-03-13 07:20 pm (UTC)I'm expecting both of us will be okay with the colonoscopies. It'll be a pain dealing with all of it, but we'll come through okay. I have the impression that them finding anything is unlikely (though possible and more so for me because of my history and my family's history). Thank you for the good wishes.

Date: 2016-03-13 06:38 pm (UTC)That said, they were pretty good when I was dealing with treatment last fall and occasionally needed Scott to come to appointments, and I know they accommodate documented, longer term conditions like pneumonia or a broken bone without threatening to fire people, but... Grr.

Date: 2016-03-13 06:17 pm (UTC)About the only thing I like about the love triangle is that the writers haven't resolved it by saying, "Well, of course, Lucas ends up with Riley. She's the main character." I still worry that they'll end up there. I'm not convinced that they'll resolve it in any of the ways that I would-- Riley/Maya, Riley/Maya/Lucas, or everybody growing out of it and ending up interested in other people-- or in no one at all-- but still friends.

Date: 2016-03-14 02:17 am (UTC)With a Monday colonoscopy, I'm pretty much doomed to spend all day on Sunday in the basement. Maybe it will be warmer down there in April than it is now?

Date: 2016-03-14 01:41 pm (UTC)Generally speaking, I'm willing to try writing for anything that I have enjoyed as long as I have ready access to the canon and as long as the canon either isn't overly large or has a really good Wiki.
On my current WIP list, I have:
3 Narnia fics
9 Weiss Kreuz fics
2 Chronicles of Amber fics
5 Original fics
1 Rurouni Kenshin fic
1 Harry Potter fic
1 multifandom crossover
I think that everything, but I may have missed something.
On my list of prompts I'm thinking very, very seriously about starting right now, I have: The Pretender, Sky High, Princess Tutu, and, possibly, DC Comics.
My list of prompts that I may or may not ever write is very long, possibly as many as one hundred entries. About a third of those are crossover prompts. The rest are mostly Weiss Kreuz, Narnia, or prompts pulled from Yuletides past.
