It’s a really, really good thing I walked the short way back from dropping Cordelia at school (I wasn’t sure I would make it if I went the long way) because she forgot her water bottle. That meant I had to make a second trip to school. I had to beg somebody in the office to either take the bottle down to the basement for her or to call and have one of the other kids come up. The gym teacher volunteered, fortunately. I just didn’t think I could get down there and back up and then home. As it is, I’m exhausted. It’s not in the must sleep now sort of way but rather in the my muscles have done as much as they can sort of way.

I really hope that Cordelia doesn’t have to come home mid-day, but she might. They have a field trip this morning that will involve walking a lot. They’re going to a forest to learn more about ecology. If Cordelia stays at school all day, she’ll walk home with her friend and not need me to pick her up.

Cordelia’s PT went fine yesterday. The clinic was a bit further back from the main road than I was expecting, but we found it. Cordelia’s therapist took pains to put her at ease. The appointment was mostly for the therapist to gather information, but she gave Cordelia two exercises to go on with. One, she can do while sitting at school. The other involves sliding the heel of the injured leg back and forth to see how far she can bend her knee. Right now, she can’t get very far, but as the therapist predicted, the exercise gets easier as she does it. That is, the first two or three repetitions are pretty difficult. After that, it’s a lot easier.

She’s allowed to use just one crutch for getting around at home now but is to use two when at school. She’s to spend some time at home sitting with her legs down and the brace off and some time sitting with her legs up and the brace off. Scott bought a narrow plastic lawn chair on his way home. The therapist said that Cordelia should be good for a seated shower. Scott tried to pick up a neoprene knee thingy, but he got the wrong size, so that will have to wait for him to go back to the drug store tonight.

My physical therapy was mostly just a check in. We didn’t make any additional appointments, but she said that, if things get worse, I should talk to my oncologist about another referral. She thinks that the issues I’m having at the moment aren’t so much lymphedema as stress, lack of sleep, and dehydration. It’s just that that bit of my body is more vulnerable to trouble from all of that than the rest of me.

I was so tired last night that I didn’t end up eating dinner. I hadn’t actually gotten around to lunch, either. I fell into bed about 9:00 or 9:30. Unfortunately, when Scott joined me a few minutes later, he wanted to keep working on his laptop, so I wasn’t able to fall asleep immediately. I still feel better this morning than I did.

Huh. I’m starting to feel like I might need to sleep more. Sadly, I’ve had about 24 ounces of water and 16 ounces of coffee in the last two hours. My bladder is unlikely to allow me to lie down for more than fifteen minutes at a time. For some reason, such things become more urgent when I’m lying down.

It's good that Cordelia's PT went so well but too bad about needing to take another trip to school. I'm sorry you;re having so much trouble getting enough sleep.

Glad to hear how the PT appointments went! Thats great news.

I hope Claudia adjusts well to the change, and the exercises.

And I hope you feel better soon.
