Oct. 26th, 2011 09:40 amI'm dithering. This week, on the Yuletide LJ community, there are signups for a book exchange and a candy exchange. Both sound like they could be fun, but both also sound like things that could easily go wrong. I'm not sure I want to commit to this. Of course, I might match with people easy to please, and the shipping might go easily. I don't know.
The idea of the candy exchange is to send something local or regional. Poking around, using Google, it looks like there are three local chocolatiers, two of which I could get to without imposing on Scott. None of them seem to make non-chocolate candies. That would be bad if I matched for someone with dairy issues or a vegan. There are more local places that sell candy, but these three seem to be the ones who actually make candy. I'm dating myself, but I miss Drake's. I don't think Drake's made their own, but they had such variety that one could find something for just about anyone.
The book exchange seems more straightforward. I'd have to be careful about what I offered to send, but I could probably order something from Amazon, used or new, and have it shipped direct. I don't think I've got anything on hand that I love that I'd be willing to part with and ship myself. Sending something that I want to get rid of anyway would be against the spirit of the exchange.
I've got a few days left to dither. I don't know which way I'll end up going. What do people think?
(For those interested in the exchanges, the informational post with the links to the sign up forms is here. The exchanges are intended for those who plan to be involved with Yuletide, but I don't think they're checking.)

Date: 2011-10-26 11:49 pm (UTC)But there are so many books out there, I think you'll be able to think of something.
Viridian5 has been posting some interesting book recs.
And for someone who likes fantasy, I am a big fan of:
Sabriel
The Queen of Attolia + The King of Attolia
There's always food or photo books as a last resort, I think.
