Jun. 6th, 2016 12:40 pmAn Ingress frustration— Scott filled a capsule with stuff to pass to me. He 'dropped' it so that I could pick it up, and I did. The program told me I had succeeded in picking it up, and the capsule disappeared from the display. It did not, however, end up in my inventory. It simply vanished. The capsule was full of power cubes (so 100 of them) which, while not rare, only turn up in maybe one hack out of four. I use a lot of power cubes because I spend a lot of time remotely recharging portals. At this point, I’m going to have to mostly stop that apart from two portals that I really, really want to keep.
I spent a little time yesterday trying to organize our DVDs. I’m by no means done with what’s in the living room, and I’m pretty sure there are twenty or thirty more DVDs in Cordelia’s room. There may be some down in the basement, too, but I’m less sure of that. I’m planning to divide things into categories: anime, movies, English language TV, and exercise DVDs. I’m of two minds about the anime movies. Right now, I’m putting those that only I am likely to watch with the anime and those that Scott and/or Cordelia might also watch with the movies. So Miyazaki with the movies and Lupin III with the anime. I still have to figure out what I want to do with the movie boxed sets. They ought to go with the other movies, but… They don’t fit the shelf all that well.
I found a bunch of pre-school appropriate VHS tapes that I’m not at all sure what to do with— Blues Clues, Dora, various Winnie-the-Pooh straight to video things, a version of Peter Rabbit, a version of Good Night Moon. I really don’t think anyone is likely to want these (and they may well no longer play. We got them used, and they’re likely at least twenty years old). I suppose I can ask the various thrift shops around town, but that’s a lot of work. The cases are apparently recyclable, at least in theory, but the insides aren’t. I’m definitely not going to do that work.
Of course, doing all of that is by way of cat waxing when I need to write. I’m making forays into Cordelia’s room to search for DVDs and CDs. (I have about thirty CD cases from that and three CDs. There are still a lot of DVDs hidden in there. I’ve only found, for example, one Harry Potter movie.) I also want to go for a bit of a walk because it’s relatively cool outside right now. That is something that I actually need to do as opposed to a chore that can wait.
I have ten library CDs this week which is four more than I usually aim to get. Basically a bunch of things that I’d had holds on for a long time came in all at once. These were things that had more than a dozen holds when I put my name in or that had been ordered but hadn’t arrived yet, so I had no real way of knowing when they’d come in exactly. I’ve also gotten some DVDs that I’m hoping will be good to have on in the background while I write. In terms of library books, my goal for the week is to finish (or abandon) the four graphic novels I’ve got. I’ve finished both of my interlibrary loan books. I have two non-fiction books to get through and a book of poetry and two children’s books by the same author.

Date: 2016-06-06 05:27 pm (UTC)One of the places on South Industrial takes VCR tapes - either the PTO Thrift Shop or the ReUse center. Or, since you are not sure that they still work, the other option would be to bring them in with e-waste at an e-waste collection event. Pioneer has one each year in April or May -- this year's event was a few weeks ago.
