I'm still dithering about signing up for Yuletide, but I'm taking all the steps, short of signing up, to sign up. If I don't sign up for Yuletide, this entry will just quietly disappear. If I do sign up for Yuletide, I'll need it. Then again, maybe I'll keep it even if I don't sign up. I can reference it next year when I'm once again pondering Yuletide requests.

My biggest hesitation about signing up is that Scott has a nasty cold with a cough and sore throat. I'm likely to be getting that, and by all reports, it sticks around for a while. If I get it (when I get it), I doubt I'll be up to writing. I may not even be up to reviewing canon. The one year when I was sick through the Yuletide writing process, I produced a story I've never been quite happy with (It needed a rewrite that I was too sick to give it).

Dear Yuletide Writer,

So we've matched. I hope you're not staring at my requests in horror. I'm actually pretty easy to please.

I enjoy time travel and crossovers. I like divergent AUs, the sort where one detail of canon is changed and the story explores the repercussions of that. I'm fine with gen, het or slash but tend more towards lower ratings than toward explicit sex. I'm not completely against explicit sex. I just haven't tended to read stories with it in the last couple of years.

I don't enjoy transplant AUs, the type where everybody is a rock star or where they're all in high school. I'm interested in the characters in the canonical setting. I don't like vampires, zombies or unicorns unless they're funny. Harm to children is an absolute no. I can't deal with it. I also would rather not read about underage (under age 18) sex.

The specific requests:

The Enchanted Island of Yew - L. Frank Baum (Nerle, Prince Marvel) - This short novel is available free from Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/518 If you don't like my other requests, this book is a quick read.

I would actually be happy with any character in this fandom, so if you have an idea that involves neither Nerle nor Prince Marvel, run with it. If you have a story idea that involves only one of the two characters, I'm fine with that, too.

My fascination with this canon comes from the times, while reading, when I stopped, shook my head and said, "Run that by me again." Baum put things in that he didn't fully explore.

For Prince Marvel (or the fairy who turned into Prince Marvel), I'm interested in what it means that he's really a female fairy (or do fairies not differentiate by male and female?). Was it weird going back and forth? Which sex did he/she prefer? Were teenage hormones distracting? Did he/she like being human? What does she do after changing back?

For Nerle, I wonder about his desire to suffer pain and humiliation. Does he really give up on that at the end? What else interests him? How does he feel on discovering that Prince Marvel is actually a fairy?

Planet Ladder (manga) (Shiina Mol Bamvivrie) - Bambi is my favorite character. I've always wanted to know more about what's going on in her head. Why does she make the choices that she does? I tend to think that she's at least a bit in love with Kaguya, but I'm open to other interpretations. A story exploring what happens between the big, save the worlds scene and the epilogue might also be interesting. I'm sure I'll love whatever you do.

Shamanic Princess (Tiara (Shamanic Princess)) - I'd actually be happy with any character in this fandom. I nominated Tiara because she's the main character, but I'm interested in everybody. What's it like to be in a partnership? How did the characters come to know each other? What happens to the Throne of Yord afterward? I'm interested in more about the characters, more about the setting, more in general.

Phineas and Ferb (Vanessa Doofenshmirtz) - What happened to Vanessa in the alternate future where Doofenshmirtz ruled the tri-state area? (For that matter, what happened to her in the alternate dimension? Did she even exist?) Does Vanessa ever get a car? I can't imagine her father not tinkering with it to 'improve' it if she did. Ferb definitely has a crush on Vanessa, but she doesn't seem to see him that way (he's too young, I think). Will she ever regard him romantically? Would Vanessa recognize Perry in his pet disguise?
