Jul. 5th, 2016 12:22 pmLast night’s mini-post was mainly in the service of keeping myself awake. I didn’t really pay a lot of attention to the fireworks because they don’t really do much for me. Pretty lights, loud noises, yeah, yeah, whatever. I’m not sure if it’s something missing in me or what.
We left to go to Scott’s parents’ place around 5:00. Scott spent the afternoon before that finishing a book he’s been working on for weeks. He doesn’t get much uninterrupted reading time. I napped a little. I’m pretty sure Cordelia was reading, too.
Scott’s parents prepared chicken wings. One of their neighbors who is moving soon had bought a package that turned out to be a lot bigger than he thought it was, so he gave them half.
Scott spent a good bit of time outside with his father while Cordelia and I hung out with his mother. I think Scott is realizing that we don’t know how much time we have left with his parents, and his father is the one who we know has been in poor health.
Cordelia revealed not long before we left for the fireworks that the thing she’d actually been anticipating was that we would buy sour patch kids which she doesn’t get very often. That was only feasible because we watched the fireworks from the parking lot of a Target. We got there about half an hour before the place closed. Scott and I split a large candy bar. Scott got the store brand equivalent of fig newtons. Cordelia got Swedish fish and then urged me to get the sour patch kids. I did end up doing that.
The fireworks lasted about half an hour. The lights in the parking lot turned off about thirty seconds after the fireworks ended, right at the point when people actually needed them. I’m sure they’re on a timer. Getting to the highway took some doing because the lights in that area go to being flashers by that time of night. There were police directing traffic at some points but no one was helping people get out of the Target parking lot, and we had a long wait for the left turn to the highway on ramp.
We made it home a little after 11:30, so Scott and I managed to get the light off by midnight. I’m not sure how Scott slept, though. I was kind of restless because I felt too warm.
I decided yesterday that I wouldn’t try to do that fasting blood draw today. Today was simply the earliest I could do it rather than a deadline for having it done. I think that tomorrow or Thursday will work better for me.
I was awakened this morning by the dentist’s office calling about rescheduling my appointment. I’m not sure if I mentioned that— I realized on Friday that my appointment was the first day of Art Fair. Art Fair completely borks the bus routes in that area. Getting to the dentist wouldn’t be terrible, but getting home would be considerably more difficult. I’d just rather not deal with it.
On Friday, I managed to schedule both of Cordelia’s appointments in spite of the headache I had. It took several calls because I was trying to coordinate to get appointments at two different clinics on the same day with the timing such that one of them running late wouldn’t make us miss the other but also that we wouldn’t have to be out at Domino Farms for eight hours. It’s $17 (including tip) for a cab each way, and the clinics are not just in the same building— They share a waiting room and reception desk (but not, sadly, a scheduler). Finally, the woman answering the phones for the pediatrician put me on hold and made the woman sitting next to her coordinate to find a day when we could get both appointments in. It’ll be a morning thing which isn’t my first preference, but we can do it. They couldn’t get us in until about three weeks after my initial target date, but I don’t think there’s anything that will be hurt by that.
This afternoon, we’re having a guy in to check and see how much difference the new insulation actually makes in terms of air flow and leakage. I’m not sure what happens if the change isn’t what they expected. I think that the contractor who put in the insulation getting the rest of their payment is contingent on this inspector approving it, but… If the contractor did what they were supposed to and it simply didn’t work right, that seems unfair on the contractor. Then again, us paying $5000 for something that didn’t work would be rage making.

Date: 2016-07-06 01:21 am (UTC)I just spent half the night hoping the fireworks (and we had a lot this year, more than others) wouldn't wake Jason, James or Maggie up. Some people really close to us insisted on sending them up in rapid succession, too.
