At the last minute today, Scott’s supervisor informed him that he would have to stay an extra four hours. They gave him time to call me to let me know which is something they don’t always do because it requires him leaving the factory floor. Adding insult to injury, he’d just spent eight hours pulling carts from one side of the plant to the other (the loading dock is, naturally, as far as possible from the part of the plant where he works). Days when he pulls carts, he generally doesn’t get a lunch break or any other type of break because he’s not supposed to take one until he’s ahead of the lines he’s pulling for which never happens during a normal production day. I’m expecting him to come home and pretty much fall over.

I’m attempting to make rice in the pressure cooker. I think I set everything up correctly, and I found a table for water to rice ratios and cooking times for different types of rice in pressure cookers. I needed that because the manuals that came with our pressure cooker only talk about things like jasmine rice and basmati rice without any discussion of more common kinds.

Days when he pulls carts, he generally doesn’t get a lunch break or any other type of break because total bullshit that can't be legal. :(

Oh, it's not legal. It's absolutely not. But what is he going to do? He hasn't been able to find another job at a comparable pay rate (he makes about $45000 a year what with overtime), and he's been there for twenty two years. His college degree is way, way out of date and is from a university that wasn't actually accredited in his field (materials engineering).

I am so sorry that his boss can get away with such illegal practices. That really sucks. :(
