Dec. 11th, 2011 12:31 pmI'm making progress on my Yuletide fic. I'm over a thousand words, so that's one worry off my mind. The dratted thing is coming in in two sections that I have to figure out how to stitch together, but having two parts lets me switch back and forth when I get stuck on one of them. I've got three hours this afternoon and plan to write after I finish this post.
This week was the school's Scholastic book fair. I spent quite a bit of money, more than I meant to. I bought four books for me, five for Delia, three for Delia's teacher, an I Spy CD and a small stuffed animal for Delia. I worked the fair Friday morning. That meant that Delia and I had to be at the school by 7:45, so we were both feeling rushed and a bit cranky. Business was steady through the hour we were open. Dealing with the cash register/credit card machine was anxiety inducing, but I think I did everything right.
Thursday was my six month's dental appointment. I set out a bit early because I needed to get lunch before the appointment. The place I meant to go for lunch turned out not to be open. I'm not sure whether I was too early or whether it just wasn't open that day. Fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants around there. I had to send back my meal because it had crushed peanuts sprinkled on it. The menu hadn't said anything about that.
Saturday morning, Delia had a basketball game. Her team lost, but they put up a decent fight. They just had trouble keeping possession of the ball, and the other team had the skill to take advantage. We've got one practice and one game left to go.
Saturday evening, we decorated the tree. Delia had a friend over to spend the night, a three year old who lives near us. The three year old did some decorating but got bored within ten minutes and simply wandered the house while we finished decorating.
I find that I miss the tree decorating parties my family used to have when I was growing up. My mother would bake several kinds of cookies, and each member of the family invited a guest. We always got big trees, and strung popcorn and cranberries. The whole thing took most of an evening.
Scott and I, by contrast, have a smallish, artificial tree (easier for allergies and less mess, though storing it all the rest of the year is a pain). We have maybe a third as many decorations, very few of which are really nice (finding nice ornaments takes some doing. My mother had some really nice glass ornaments that she found at junk stores and yard sales. I lack the spoons to do that sort of searching). The whole process of decorating takes about forty-five minutes, including putting the tree together.
Right now, Scott's at work, and Delia's at a birthday party. I've got about three hours for writing and whatever else I need to do (I want to try one of my Sit and Be Fit DVDs. I've had them for weeks but haven't pulled them out because Delia's always around. She objects to Sit and Be Fit for some reason).
