Aug. 19th, 2016 03:49 pmThe headache has gone as of about an hour after my last post. I’m not sure what helped. Maybe the naproxen finally kicked in?
I still can’t get my CD drive to acknowledge that new CD as readable, so I’m going to have to return it. I don’t want to deal with that at all, but I don’t see an alternative. Well, I suppose, having bought the damned thing, I could get the readable copy from the library again and rip that into iTunes. I just like owning a hard copy, so I’ve gone through the steps to get ready to return it to Amazon.
All of the places we need to go this weekend close at 5 or 6 on Sunday. Us getting out of the house before noon is unlikely, so I’m not so worried about when things open because nothing waits later than noon. The Apple Store needs an appointment, so I should try to get that as soon as I know what’s going on with Scott’s work this weekend. I’d hate to schedule and then find out that he’s working Sunday.
I’m thinking to do the Verizon store then Target then groceries and hair cuts. Great Clips often has a wait of more than half an hour, but if I save the url on my phone, I can get us on the waiting list as soon as we’re on the way back from Target. Also, Scott usually takes a bit more than an hour getting the groceries. Great Clips and the Kroger Pharmacy both close at 5 on Sundays. Target’s open much later than anything else, but if we’re out that way for the Verizon store, it really makes no sense to do anything else next.
We’ll need to stop at home after buying groceries. Going out as soon as the groceries are put away should get us to the library and the Apple Store in good time (assuming I can make the appointment work). Both of those are open until 6, and the library never takes more than fifteen minutes.
I really hope that the laptop thing is something quick, easy, and cheap. This is a refurbished laptop, a MacBook Pro, and I’ve had it about a year. I tried a fix that I found on the Apple help forums, but that didn’t help at all, so I kind of suspect this isn’t something I can fix myself.
The heat is right over the hard drive. I keep my laptop on a little, angled stand so that there’s airflow under it except for about half a dozen specific support points (this also helps ergonomically which is the main reason I wanted the stand to begin with).
Right now, my laptop seems to be okay if I work for ten to fifteen minutes and then let it rest for ten minutes. Editing works better than writing anything new, presumably because I stop more often. Or maybe because I touch type when I write new stuff and edit one handed. I suppose I can compose new text on my phone, but editing there is a PITA.
