I’m planning to do Yuletide this year. Barring something awful happening, I’m certain I can do it, and isn’t it always 'barring something awful' for everyone who signs up? I ended up nominating. Two of my nominations have been approved (Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman and the Webmage series by Kelly McCullough). The third (the song Twilight Zone by Golden Earring) is still pending, but I couldn’t find any fics for it at all, so I think it will go through.

I’m considering signing up for the small fandom big bang, too. I have three story ideas for fandoms that ought to qualify (two Amber, one Sky High) and that are pretty certain to be over 10000 words. The writing period overlaps with Yuletide, so I’m hesitating. Stories aren’t due until January 30th, though, so I’d have all of January just for that.

I have a draft of my pinch hit on AO3. I’m still tweaking the notes and tags. Two of the tags I want to use are non-canonical, but I’m pretty definite that I want them. I’m more interested in them giving information to potential readers than I am about them being searchable. The other three tags are canonical. I’m going to hold off on posting it until closer to the deadline. The fandom’s not hugely active (compared to a mega-fandom), but a week is more than long enough to take a story off the first page. It’s ten days to the deadline plus however long to the reveal.

argh, I missed Yuletide nominations! I knew I was forgetting something this weekend...

Well, Yuletide nominations ended very early on Saturday from the point of view of anyone in the US. Before dawn, even.

I'm definitely leaning toward signing up. I was mainly holding off because I wanted to ask them to add Amber to the approved small fandoms list, and the moderator has done that. Sky High, the other fandom I'm considering, was already on the approved list.

Mine just got approved too, hooray!

Although I did notice that one of the "fandoms" I signed up for - Disney/Pixar (all media types) - doesn't appear on the approved list, despite this comment on the qualifying thread saying they do. I'm wondering if that's because they'd prefer people to separate out the fandoms in the signup? I'd be writing a crossover though, and I'm not sure whether I'd want to limit myself by picking specific fandoms. :\ I guess we'll see what happens once this signup is submitted!

I ended up signing up to write more Chronicles of Amber. I've got two very definite stories there. With Sky High, I have an idea, a vague one, but I don't have any sort of hook for it in my head that would let me start writing.

Small fandom big bang. Huh. When do signups end, do you recall?

I broke down and nominated for Yuletide this year and all of my fandoms were approved, even the not a snowball's chance in hell fandom. I guess I'm signing up.

I believe sign ups for writers run through the end of October. I'm certain that it's a very long sign up period because I remember being surprised by it.

Thanks. I found it right after I posted this comment. October 31 is the deadline to sign up and we have until the end of March to write. I have a longish idea for one of my Yuletide fandoms, actually.
