Apr. 10th, 2012 09:27 pmThe ramp Scott (with help from friends and family) built nine years ago when I had to use a walker during the last weeks of my pregnancy is coming apart. The sheet of wood at the bottom has wrenched loose from half of its nails to curl upward. Delia likes bouncing on it. We'll probably end up taking the ramp apart and getting rid of it instead of repairing it. We're used to having it, but we don't actually need it. I haven't used the walker since Delia was born. We can all handle the two steps down from the porch.
Getting rid of the ramp will mean that the remnants of our little fence will look truly ridiculous. The portion of the fence that ran along the ramp fell apart years ago. The part along the driveway that includes the gate still stands strong. It just doesn't do much except get in the way when Scott needs to get the lawnmower into the backyard and give us something against which to array our trash bins.
In a way, I'll be sorry to see the ramp go. I'm used to it. It was a convenient place to hang laundry to dry. It's also, in a way, evidence that Scott will go out of his way to take care of me.
Of course, we're getting into the months when Scott is busy during weekends. The ramp may sit there for quite a while yet.
