Sep. 5th, 2002 01:27 pmAnyway, the last two months... My cousin got married in July. My husband couldn't get the day off, so LunarGeography drove me up to the wedding. My father's family has very seldom seen Scott, so it always freaks them a little when I show up to gatherings with someone else. The last time, I had a male friend drive me up, and my cousins were trying to figure out whether or not he was my husband or, if he wasn't, if his presence meant that I was about to divorce and remarry. Fortunately, Scott, Cass and I all found it humorous, but...
My father and his current lady friend drove in from New Mexico. My sister and half-sister flew in (so did my sister's boyfriend who I hadn't previously met). We all met for lunch before the wedding. I can't say I was all that impressed by my father's friend. Fortunately, I don't need to see either of them often. LunarGeography did indulge herself by baiting my father a little, and that helped lighten my mood.
The service was quite conservative Christian with a heavy emphasis on feminine obedience and on the sanctity/permanence of marriage. I found it just a bit offensive. Only the knowledge that the couple had chosen the service kept me from getting up and walking out. As it was, I just squirmed a lot. I don't like passively approving that sort of thing. The reception was very simply dull. In spite of enjoying the opportunity to see my sisters, I was fairly glad to leave.
Oddly enough, my father didn't try to pressure me to spend more time with him while he was in state. Normally, he whines about my wanting to spend time writing my annual LARP. Sigh... I usually liberate a day or two and get very frustrated with him over his attitude. This year, I didn't need to (which was kind of funny given that I was actually done writing the characters at that point and could have spared the time).
