Sep. 17th, 2002 10:51 amIt's been a fairly busy week, and the next few days look like they'll continue the trend. My allergies are acting up, so I've got a sinus headache that simply won't go away. Given the whole trying to get pregnant thing, I'm kind of limited in what sort of medication I can take, so I'm suffering with lots of grumbling. I even went to bed early last night (and slept! Wonder of wonders).
Let's see... On Monday the 9th, I went with LunarGeography and her husband to watch anime with some friends of theirs. The real point was for me to meet Leah and Stuart with an eye toward possibly inviting them into my Saturday Amber game. I like them and probably will ask them to play, but I'm facing a little bit of a dilemma. One of the players I had thought had dropped out (he missed some sessions without ever telling me he wasn't coming or letting me know afterward that he hadn't been hit by a truck. I usually take that as a sign of disinterest) claims that he wants to continue playing. I'm a little torn because, apart from the no-shows, he hasn't been a detriment to the game and doesn't seem like a bad guy. Of course, he also hasn't been an asset... Leah and Stuart come as a pair, and I'd rather not add two new players unless Mr. No-show isn't coming back.
Another high point of that trip was the opportunity to see the Demonic Cow. Just around the corner from Leah and Stuart's house there's a dinky convenience store with a huge plastic (I assume) cow standing on the roof. The thing's lit from underneath at night and looks... odd. Creepy.
Leah writes fanfiction. From the sound of it, what she writes might not be my style since she favors fluffy interpretations of even the darkest characters. She's very enthusiastic about it, however, and states upfront that she goes fluffy because the darker versions scare her. I wonder if that's a common phenomenon in fanfiction... The traits that most fascinate her when she's watching the shows, the ones that make her want to write about the characters, are the ones she's least able to put into something she writes.

Date: 2002-09-17 09:16 am (UTC)Reading, watching and, in my opinion, playing can be somewhat less personal. It's possible to keep a certain level of detachment when such things come from the outside or are cooperative. At least, that's been my experience.
