LunarGeography and I have continued watching Utena with Wheloc. I think he's enjoying it. At least, he hasn't run away or developed any sudden scheduling conflicts... We've gotten up through the first three episodes in the Black Rose Arc. It would have been more, but we last met on Tuesday, and Scott and I wanted to see Buffy in the middle of the session. Wheloc and LunarGeography were quite obliging about that.
Scott has watched too when he's been home, but the series doesn't draw him the way it does me. He finds the surreal quality and the symbolism rather infuriating not intriguing. Arguing over what's really going on simply doesn't appeal to him. He says he's going to watch it all simply so that he has context when the topic comes up in discussions, but I suspect that we'll move forward pretty slowly. Maybe even slowly enough that Scott'll watch the Black Rose Arc not from LunarGeography's fansubs but from the DVDs that I've preordered (yes, that would be extremely slow, but I don't think he cares enough to do it faster, and it may take the major excitement of buying the DVDs to get me to grab him and make him watch).
We've made more progress watching Slayers. Laura and Drew have the first series on DVDs and were willing to lend them to us, and I've started taping Slayers Next off of the International Channel. Scott likes Slayers a lot, and I'm having fun seeing everything again. It's kind of nice to watch something that I don't have to think very hard about.
We rented Monsters, Inc. last week. Scott loves watching me watch cute movies. He's admitted that that has more appeal for him than the movies themselves (although I don't think he minds the movies either). I've decided that Monsters, Inc. will definitely go on the Christmas list this year. It was sweet and funny.
We've recently acquired a copy of the Fellowship of the Ring DVD and of the Muppet Movie DVD. I've rewatched the latter already and expect to get to the former tomorrow some time. Buying the FotR was Scott's decision. He rented it once to show it to me to make sure I didn't absolutely hate it (I'd have been surprised if I had hated it given all the good things I'd heard about it from almost everybody, but I suppose you never know. In any event, I liked it quite a lot). Buying the Muppet Movie was largely my call. I've loved that movie since I first saw it something like 20 years ago (has it really been that long? Hard to believe, but...). Also, it has certain sentimental value since Gonzo's song was one of the bits of music we used at our wedding.
