I saw a doctor on Monday to get some prescriptions renewed and to ask about the wrist trouble I've been having. He wasn't my usual doctor; she's out of town until next week some time. Apparently he doesn't actually write prescriptions any more-- He passed me on to his nurse and told her to phone them all in. This didn't work all that well since two of the three weren't due to be refilled yet. I asked for a paper prescription (particularly after the nurse complained about one going to a different pharmacy. I do most prescriptions at Kroger, but that pharmacy doesn't carry axid, the antacid I take twice a day. Kroger's still much more convenient, so the axid's the only prescription I fill elsewhere), but that apparently wasn't feasible. Sigh...

The doctor referred me to physical therapy for my wrists, and I was able to get in the same day and even see my usual therapist. He recommended that I slow down on the typing and crocheting (I can keep knitting since my hands and wrists seem quite accustomed to that) and gradually build a tolerance. He says that the fact that it's not actively painful and isn't getting worse is a good sign. I'm also supposed to ice my wrists every time I take off the compression bands I've been wearing on them (I have no discomfort until I do take those off, so he thinks the inflammation's fairly minor), and he gave me two new gel packs which I've put in the freezer in the basement. I'll see him again next Tuesday, and we'll evaluate my progress or lack thereof.

After PT, I tried to visit a friend at the graduate library, but my timing was off. Either she wasn't there that day or she'd gone on break. (I kind of suspect the latter given the time of day.) I did run into a couple of other people, one of whom is probably the person I least want to see when I go into that building. We were superficially friendly as always and didn't pause to talk. The other person was someone with whom I'm on friendlier terms. She taught one of the classes I took way back when when I was trying to get a library degree. We chatted a little bit since I hadn't seen her since before my breakdown two and a half years ago.

After that I headed for the bus. I ended up making a brief stop at Borders when I saw a book on the remaindered table outside that I knew Scott would like. It's a small encyclopedia of fighter planes, complete with pictures. There's enough information to interest him without the book being too huge for convenience. I also picked up a remaindered book of Escher prints. I told myself I was going to give it to my sister, but that may not happen. I find I rather like the book myself. One can get lost in the pictures.
