Oct. 23rd, 2002 10:49 amWe've started getting serious about getting rid of some of our accumulation of junk. I offered a few things to some friends by e-mail yesterday. Our down comforter had a new home by evening (Scott allergic to down. My parents gave the thing to me before Scott and I started dating, but I haven't been able to use it in years). Dorothy was very happy to get it because she has no spare blankets except for afghans and is expecting a visit from her mother in the next few days. Jeannette has spoken for the cast iron cookware (wedding presents that we don't use any more because I can no longer reliably lift them). Nobody seems interested in the unpowered treadmill, so that will probably go to charity. No one spoke for the old toaster either.
One of my goals for this week is to clean out my closet. I haven't gone through my clothes since before we bought this house five years ago. I have to figure out what I'm never ever going to wear again and get rid of it. I expect that some of it can be donated, but some of it... (For example, the shirt I'm wearing now-- I got it cheap because of an error in manufacturing in the cuffs. Due to that same error, it's now got holes worn all around the wrists. It still covers everything important, but... I have no desire to wear it in public and don't think it's in sufficiently good shape to donate.) LunarGeography has offered to help me with the task, and I think that her presence will help me to be properly ruthless.
