Nov. 3rd, 2002 08:37 pmWe just spent a great deal of money today. Some of it was planned and some of it impulsive. Scott needed his usual one more component for the computer/stereo system in order to make whatever his next goal is possible (I think he wants to burn CDs from my vinyl LPs, but I'm not absolutely certain), so we went to Best Buy. Since I have absolutely no interest in looking at stereo cables, I wandered into the DVD section. I didn't plan to buy anything unless I ran into a real bargain, but... I got tempted.
I found some anime that I wanted for a bit less than I'd pay at Wizzywig. Then I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for only $10; I loved that movie when I was a kid. It's one I want around for when I have kids. And, hey, come on-- $10 isn't much at all. Then there was the serious threat... I think that on my own I'd have managed to walk away, but once Scott and I started talking about it... We bought the boxed set of FarScape's first season. We already had two of the episodes on DVD, but we figured out that it would still be cheaper to get the boxed set than to fill out the collection with singletons.
From there, we went downtown. I'd gotten an e-mail telling me that my preorder of the first DVD of the Black Rose Arc of Utena was in. I'd planned to buy another Cowboy Bebop DVD too, but my Best Buy purchases had more than wiped out that bit of budget. Oh, well... Next month. I only need v.5 of Cowboy Bebop now (well, and the movie, eventually) to complete my set. Eventually, I want to go back and get the first two Utena DVDs, too. One a month. One a month unless I find them on sale somewhere.
While I went into Wizzywig, Scott headed into Borders. We had finally decided that we should go ahead and use the gift card that we'd bought for Josh back in August and then forgotten to give him. Since we don't actually even have a current address for him, getting it to him now would be difficult. As soon as I walked into the store, I spotted one item that I knew we'd be buying: Larry Gonick's Cartoon History of the Universe v.III. We both love Gonick's stuff, and his histories are both readable and informative. We also ended up getting a Dilbert book.
Then we came back to the north side of town and did our grocery shopping. It turned out to be one of those grocery excursions that's expensive without your quite being able to put your finger on what cost so much. I guess we all have those from time to time.
