Nov. 11th, 2002 07:52 pmI've now done a lot of the Christmas shopping for my relatives. It's not particularly creative, but when I can afford to give gifts, I usually go to the Swiss Colony catalog for gifts for my relatives. I started that years ago and haven't seen any reason to change. My brother's still at a point where something foodish that he doesn't have to work over is a blessing. I'm utterly clueless as to what might please either of my grandparents, but something special and holidayish that she can share with neighbors and relatives works well for Grandma. I suspect that my mother and stepfather will be a little appalled to get their gift because this sort of catalog is almost exactly the style of thing that they dislike, requiring, according to them, no thought or real understanding of the recipient. Too bad. I wasn't in a mood to try to shop elsewhere and then ship, and I don't think I really do understand them well enough to pick out something more suitable than the jam and fruit tray I selected for them.
Now all I need to deal with in that direction is presents for Scott and for friends. I leave most of the shopping for his family up to Scott. I do want to give careful consideration to what to give our sister-in-law this year, however. We meant to get her a birthday present in September but still haven't gotten around to it (my brother-in-law has not been helpful on this front. When asked what his wife would like, his response was more or less, "Um... I don't know."). I'd like to get her something a bit more personal than, say, an Amazon gift certificate, but I don't know what she's already got.
