Nov. 17th, 2002 03:49 pmThursday evening anime watching ended up being rather more hanging out time. LunarGeography's laptop had refused to surrender the floppy disk she'd been saving her NaNoWriMo stuff on, and she asked for assistance. One of the guys there is apparently a certified Mac technician and was very pleased to have a chance to show off, and pretty much all the other guys enjoyed the opportunity to talk computers. I didn't mind, just kept crocheting and made occasional comments.
Friday night, Scott rented Attack of the Clones because he felt I should see it once. I was not hugely impressed. Anakin had no charm at all, and I found it difficult to believe in him as the central figure in a tragedy; he was simply too pathetic to manage tragedy. He was too much a teenager. I could believe that he'd end up screwing up big time, but I couldn't believe that I was supposed to care or be surprised or... I was also troubled by the fact that what was going from the point of view of the heroes wasn't at all what was going on from the point of view of the story arc. The visual effects were fairly impressive, but... That's not what interests me in a movie.
Saturday was full of gaming. Scott's Traveller game ran for the first time in six weeks. We were infiltrating a very ritzy mental hospital trying to locate a kidnapped aristocrat and ended up having to deal with an antediluvean waking. (Scott's mixing genres pretty heavily in this game!) Matt Q.'s character actually got to kill Malkav, and I think he's pretty pleased about it. Apparently fusion guns and vampires don't mix well.
My White Wolf campaign met in the evening without LunarGeography (She'd had to go out of town for her youngest sister's birthday and was too exhausted by the time she got back to be up to playing). I threw out a couple of possible undertakings for the group based on the locals realizing that one of the party members is an expert thief. They decided to undertake the more challenging job first, so I'm going to have to create a map of an imaginary bit of Vatican City so that they can find the mystically guarded vault.
After the game, I checked my e-mail and got a bit of a shock. The local UPN affiliate aired a hockey game on Tuesday instead of Buffy. Annoying, but we set the VCR for 8pm Sunday which is when they claimed they'd actually show it. They apparently changed their minds. With no notice, they actually showed it at 2pm on Saturday. Nobody we know seems to have even managed to see it, let alone tape it. Since I've heard good things about the episode, I'm particularly peeved.
