Jan. 23rd, 2003 03:14 pmI've had a cold for most of the last week. I'm afraid that's my biggest news. The dratted thing has now reached the point of being mostly gone, except when it isn't, but it ate up most of my attention while it was bad. So far, it's stayed out of my lungs, and I want to keep it that way. Bronchitis is not part of my current plans.
My sister has finally set the official date for her wedding. Of course, she's now kind of trying to discourage us from going by pointing out just how expensive it's likely to be. Round trip airfare for two to Las Vegas and then at least two nights at the Aladdin. I don't know how much it actually would cost; I haven't been able to look into it before now since I didn't know the details. The bigger barrier may be whether or not Scott can get time off of work.
Yesterday was my mother's birthday, and I gave her a call in the evening. She sounded cheerful enough, though we didn't have much to talk about. My step-father who answered the phone was rather more loquacious, but then we haven't talked in a couple of months so there was more news to share. Mom did tell me about my sister's wedding plans, though.
Then my sister called this afternoon. Her main reason was that she's thinking of coming up to visit when our mother does and she wanted to find out if I minded. I don't, of course, although sleeping space may be a little tight. I actually welcome the idea because I'd like to see her and because she'll be able to help Mom with the physical labor involved in renovating the bathroom. Also, my sister should be able to push Mom to schedule the visit more firmly since Laura'll need to work her job search around it.
I've mostly finished the rough draft of part 8 of my fic. There's a big gap in the middle because I need to get my hands on a particular episode of the series in order to get an accurate description of a couple of specific events. Sadly, Wizzywig didn't have the DVD that I needed when I stopped by there on Tuesday. Rather than searching all over town or waiting for Wizzywig to get another copy, I decided to look into ordering online. As it turns out, I saved myself a bit of money doing that. Hopefully, the dratted thing will arrive in a day or two, and I'll be able to go back to complete the section.
LunarGeography wrote me a couple of omake last night, and I've already posted them on the website. They made me giggle and cover some stuff that I have no intention of writing. I think it's about the fastest writing I've ever seen LunarGeography do, so perhaps I should encourage her to do some more omake.
My half-sister's mother (I'm never sure how to describe the relationship. She and my father have split up and were never technically married (though having a kid and buying a house together qualify them as married in my mind) anyway, so step-mother's not appropriate) called me on Wednesday to let me know that they'd gotten my message about the baby being a girl. We talked a bit about dealing with infants and toddlers as a parent with a disability (she's hemispherically paraplegic due to a car accident long before my sister was born), and she was very reassuring. I also asked her about the book I want to give my sister for her birthday. Diana won't think much of it, I expect, but... I think she'll find it useful nevertheless. I want to give her a copy of the book LunarGeography lent me about charting menstrual cycles and all of that. When I read it, it seemed to me to be something that could be very useful just for understanding what's going on with a maturing female body. I'll give her something else too, something fun, but this is the part I've decided on already.
