Feb. 11th, 2003 06:49 pmWell, I'm feeling better today. I'm actually hungry, very hungry. I'm just tired and a bit light headed. I saw the obstetrician today, and she said the light headedness is common in pregnancy because of the pressure the uterus puts on the vein returning blood from the legs.
Today's visit was rather rushed. She was at a conference last week and so is trying to fit in twice the usual number of appointments this week. Basically, we did the fetal heartbeat thing and found that the heartbeat is in fact still there. The nurse gave me a videotape on labor, infant care and postpartum recovery and a little bottle of bright orange sugar water. I'm supposed to drink the latter item and get my blood draw precisely an hour later. Since that's not supposed to be done until week 24, it has to wait till next week at the earliest. Hopefully, the results will be normal since I really, really don't want to deal with gestational diabetes.
I mean, I'd rather know and deal with it properly if I have the problem, but I'd much prefer not having the problem. The rigid schedule for eating and exact portions would be a serious pain. Of course, it might limit my further weight gain. I put on another 8 pounds during the last 4 weeks. How much more am I going to put on in the next 17 weeks? I know weight gain's normal during pregnancy. It's just hard seeing all the progress I made dieting disappearing.
Well, time to go call my step-father and wish him a happy birthday. I don't want to forget, but I needed to wait until I could be fairly sure he'd be home from work.
