Mar. 9th, 2003 08:28 pmI rewrote a little bit of the part of "Rheotaxis" that I'm currently working on. The dialogue had headed off in a direction that I hadn't intended and that simply didn't work. I had to figure out exactly what went wrong since the road started with a couple of things that absolutely had to be said and had to be said then. Fortunately, I found another direction I could go. The bit I'm working on is difficult because one character's fishing for information but very definitely doesn't want the person he's talking to to figure out his exact goal. The other character's trying to be cautious about what he reveals without, quite, lying; he desperately needs the first character's good will but can't and won't pay more than a certain price for it.
Ah, well. I'm sure I'll manage to make it work in the end.
Right now, Scott's visiting his parents. They're doing a family celebration of his birthday. I'm probably well enough to have survived going, but... I'd rather be miserable here than there, and I'm fairly sure I'm still contagious (I just started sneezing today, which is generally, at least in my experience, a sign that the cold wants new hosts). I expect Scott'll be back in an hour or so. He'll probably even bring me a piece of cake that I probably won't eat.
