Thursday's trip to the dentist ended up being more of a challenge than I'd expected. We got about half an inch of ice followed by an inch or two of snow. It made walking just that little bit harder and made the roads bad enough that calling a cab seemed unwise-- I wasn't sure one could actually get through safely (This was a bit before 8am, so the city's anti-snow measures and the sun hadn't yet had much chance to help anything). The sidewalks were considerably more passable than the streets, and I had more confidence that the buses would be getting through the several inches of slush without accident, so I decided to stick with the bus.

I was right, but I also miscalculated my own stamina. My right hip's now having trouble with tendonitis on top of the sciatica. That combination's making life pretty interesting. I haven't bothered with the doctor since similar flares in the past have always ended up with the same prescription: Rest, careful movement, heat/cold as helps, and NSAIs of various types. The NSAIs are completely out of the question at the moment, and I don't think I need to pay someone to tell me to rest without letting things stiffen while taking steps to maintain blood flow and keep down swelling.

At least the filling replacement was every bit as simple as I'd expected. I was done in less than fifteen minutes. No novocain, no drilling, no unpleasantness. Just a quick application of pseudo-enamel and adhesive. The dentist and I did discuss briefly the fact that my next cleaning's due at the end of May, a time when I'm unlikely to want to be moving much. I told her that whether or not I made an appointment then or waited until I'd had the baby and recovered a bit was going to depend on how I felt at the time. There's a good bit of walking involved in getting to the dentist's office, and I somehow suspect that it's going to be more than I feel up to so close to my due date.

After I finally got home (This is the point when I really should have called a cab. The streets were starting to clear by the time I finished my appointment at about 9:20. Foolish me), I started in packing for the trip, just a little bit at a time. After a while, LunarGeography came over and helped me run some last minute errands.
