Scott e-mailed Rec & Ed about the ending of Saturday's soccer game. The referee making the kids face off, kicking balls at the goalie was out of line. The coordinator of Rec & Ed's youth soccer program got back to him with an apology and a statement that this is not Rec & Ed policy. The referee did not need to record a winner. It won't make Delia feel better about the whole thing, but it should make sure that it doesn't happen again.

I'm glad to hear it. Given that penalty shoot-outs are still controversial in the professional game, it's ludicrous to inflict it on kids!

The referee said he thought it would be fun. I'm not sure what he was smoking. He'd been a pretty good referee up until then.
