May. 17th, 2012 10:29 amIt's Delia's birthday. Nine years have passed. I remember being eager to meet my child, so to speak. I remember holding her in my arms and listing off all of the people who love her.
She was so excited last night that she didn't want to sleep. She hasn't slept well the last few nights (I'm not sure it's all excitement. I expect that the cold she's still fighting has something to do with it). This morning I had to steer her away from the dining room. Scott wrapped most of her presents last night, and they're on the table. I'd have had a fight on my hands if she'd spotted those. She'd have wanted to open them right away (it'll be hard, after school, to get her to wait for Scott to get home).
I took in store bought cupcakes for Delia's class. She had cross country this morning, so she had to be at school an hour early (they run or walk on a different course each week. Delia mostly walks with her friends and treats it as a social time). I didn't want the cupcakes sitting in the hallway while she did cross country. I thought they'd be too big a temptation for other kids or might get stepped on or otherwise mashed. I waited until our normal going to school time and made an extra trip to the school. I delivered the cupcakes to Delia's teacher.
I just finished baking Delia's cake. It's a sheet cake. I don't have round pans for a layer cake, and even if I did, I probably wouldn't make one. I don't trust myself to manage something that complicated. I'd be sure to drop or break something. I'll have to make a second cake on Saturday to take to her party on Sunday. That will be at the Hands On Museum.
Last night, the third grade had a concert. They did, if I'm recalling correctly, six songs and a folk dance. Delia had a solo. She sang one verse in a song about Michigan. She's got a strong, clear voice. I wish there was some way to get her voice lessons. She enjoys singing.

Date: 2012-05-17 02:36 pm (UTC)As for voice lessons, is there a choir that she might be able to join? Not necessarily related to a church (I can't remember if you go to one or not), but a general youth choir? Asking whoever organized the 3rd concert might lead you to that.
