Thursday, Scott had to go to bed early because he needed to go in to work at 3am instead of the usual 6:45am. He was hoping that he wouldn't have to go in early (if nobody on that shift called in sick, they wouldn't need him), so he stayed up longer than he really should have. Naturally, since he was counting on the reprieve, somebody did call in.

I didn't get Delia to sleep until about 1am, and then Scott got up at 2am. I think, over all, I got less sleep than Scott did that night. Delia ended up being cold again toward morning. I need to figure out a way to tell her "I'm fussing because I'm cold" cry from her "I'm fussing because I'm trying to poop" cry. I can't do anything about the latter, but the former has an easy remedy. At any rate, she was up often for short periods until I got her warm enough.

I have, though, discovered that I can get her to sleep a bit more soundly, be a bit more likely to stay asleep when I lay her down, if I take her in to bed with me for about five minutes. I just lie down with her against my chest and pull the covers up over both of us. Then I let her settle into a comfortable position, and I wait. After a few minutes, she'll be asleep enough not to wake as I sit up and put her in her car seat (which sits in her bassinet next to my side of the bed). It works especially well when it's a bit chilly.

I needed to fit in a shower on Friday morning, and Scott's mother was coming in the afternoon to take us to the pediatrician. This meant that I had trouble trying to sleep while Delia was in the mid-morning. My mother-in-law had said she'd come early, just in case I had other things I needed help with, and I wasn't sure what she meant by "early." Just to be safe, I got the shower and a bit of a meal done by about 10:30 and then got dressed before lying down again.

As it turned out, my mother-in-law didn't show up until about five minutes before we were supposed to be at the appointment. I'd gotten Delia up around quarter to one when she showed signs of rousing. I wanted to feed her before we headed out, and I managed that. She fell asleep then but woke when I put her in her car seat. I had to let her cry while I gathered the diaper bag and all. Then I got her and all our stuff out on the back porch to wait because I was worried about how late it was getting.

Fortunately, it's not far to the pediatrician's office, so we weren't very late (I also called to let them know that we were in fact still coming). The appointment went fairly well. Delia's weight has increased from 6 pounds 5 ounces to 7 pounds 10 ounces, so that's one worry out of the way. She's eating enough and growing properly (Yea!). She got her second hepatitis B shot which upset her only slightly less than being stripped for weighing (I think it was less only because the weighing took longer).

We'd hoped to go out in the evening, but LunarGeography, who'd volunteered to babysit for a couple of hours, ended up down with food poisoning (or something similar that had her throwing up a lot). Since we'd been kind of ambivalent (at least, I was) about the prospect, staying in wasn't a huge disappointment (apart from the fact that I'd actually managed to pick a restaurant. That never happens).

Today, we've been trying to get household chores done. I really, really need to get out to do some serious weeding, but events seem to conspire against. I couldn't get Delia to settle down enough to let me either leave her inside or haul the car seat out with me. Of course, the fact that the bursitis in my knee is still hurting makes me reluctant to push to get out there. But it's really got to be done. We've got lots of tree seedlings in the front bushes which will be trouble later on, and the flowerbed behind the house has weeds at least three feet tall. There's stuff along the driveway that needs to go, but it's lower priority.
