Jul. 10th, 2003 05:15 pmJuly 1st, I had my post partum OB appointment. That was quick and went pretty well. Delia and I took a cab to get there, and I overcame my shyness enough to nurse her in the waiting room (I figure that was a fairly welcoming environment for a first public bit of breast feeding). They asked me to fill out a survey for a study about possible links between urinary incontinence and post partum depression. Some of the questions intended to measure depression were silly-- Asking a new mother whether or not her sleep is disturbed, whether she's sleeping less than normal-- Well.
Last week ,Wednesday, LunarGeography stopped by. She gave me six sunflower seedlings, a summer squash plant and a zucchini plant and dug up a bed for them next to the garage. (Sadly, storms in the intervening days have pounded the sunflowers into the dirt. I don't think they're coming back.) We'll have fewer poppies next year which isn't really a bad thing; they need thinning badly.
After that, we talked a bit, and she read the fragments I've written of "Rheotaxis." Her comments were, as usual, helpful in clarifying what I was trying to say. We'd intended to watch some anime, but, as so often happens to us these days, we got distracted. We're not seeing each other as often, so there's more to talk about. The fact that her e-mail is losing outgoing messages and won't accept messages from my Earthlink account (There's something ridiculous about an @netscape.net address bouncing an @earthlink.net message with the comment that so much spam originates from Earthlink that all @earthlink.net addresses are being blocked. As LunarGeography commented when I told her, "Pot meet kettle").
Somewhere in there, Utsuri's gift for Delia arrived. It's an incredibly soft pink blanket with Delia's initials embroidered on it. Peeking around and over each letter is a dragon. So cute! And Delia likes it, too, because it's so warm. I'm still having to guess when she's too hot or too cold. My thermostat's been a little erratic this summer, so I can't go by how I feel.
