In terms of Delia's birthday presents, the big hit is the Robopanda. It talks and moves around and has two programming cassettes. Delia is fascinated. We didn't expect that. We thought she might be too old for it (and we'll see how long the fascination lasts as the thing repeats itself). Scott has discovered, poking around online, that some enterprising people have hacked the programming and produced new cassettes.

We also gave her a couple of CDs, some shower gel from the Body Shop, a couple of the new girl Lego sets and a book on Greek mythology (she's interested now that she's reading the Percy Jackson books).

On Delia's birthday, we went out for dinner. She chose to go to Asia City, a Chinese buffet. I'm not sure what she likes about the place-- She won't touch anything with a sauce, so most of the dishes were things she wouldn't eat. Still she ate pretty well, and since the last time we were there, a year ago, they've added bubble tea to the menu. I had a red bean bubble tea.

Today's soccer game was frustrating. Scott had to work, so I had to search for a ride for me and Delia. I sent out a message to everyone on the team asking and got one offer. One was, fortunately, all we needed. It did mean listening to a pitch for signing Delia up for summer softball (I don't think we're going to).

We got to the park where the schedule said the game was to be. There was no sign of the other team or of a referee. We milled around for a while until a woman came up to us. She said she was a parent on the other team and that the game had been moved to another park. We started the game more than fifteen minutes late. The referee bailed after two quarters. We theorized that he had another game to run elsewhere, but nobody knew for sure. One of our coaches refereed for an additional quarter, but that was it.

Our team did kind of get run over this week. The final score was five or six (I thought five, but Delia says six) to one. It was in the eighties, so the kids were really getting tired on the field. We had eight out of the ten girls, so there was one girl sitting out at any given time.

Delia played goalie for the first two quarters (should I call them 'quarters' when we only had three?). She sat out the third quarter, complaining that her ankle hurt. Questioning her led me to conclude that the problem was more likely her Achille's tendon than her ankle. She says that it hurts when she puts weight on it, but that hasn't stopped her from running around since we got home. I don't know what to think.

Tomorrow is her party at the Hands On Museum. I hope people show up at the right time. I confused things dreadfully by thinking the party was at different times and e-mailing everybody three times to give different times. The last message had the correct (double checked by calling the museum) time. The confusion was because we'd first booked the party for last weekend. When we called to reschedule it (the first time conflicted with Delia's soccer game), they didn't print out a new form for us. They just sent us the letter with the original date and time on it and assumed we'd remember that it had changed. Apparently, they sent Scott a pdf with the correct date and time, but I didn't have access to that. At any rate, I got very, very confused. Well, crossed fingers.
