Jul. 21st, 2003 04:29 pmDelia's sleep schedule has altered considerably in the last week or so. She's going through a phase of not wanting to sleep during the afternoons and evenings. She'll doze, sometimes even nap for fifteen minutes or so, but she won't really sleep. Fortunately for us, come ten or eleven at night, she'll settle in for serious sleeping. We've had a couple of nights when she's slept as long as six hours at a stretch, and last night she slept seven (which freaked me out a little bit, especially when she woke, ate almost nothing, and then slept for another three hours).
The afternoons get long, though, because Delia gets cranky. She's tired. She needs to sleep. She just won't give in and do it. The swing has become one of my dearest friends-- It can buy me as much as an hour's respite from bouncing the baby myself. She'll even drowse a bit which improves her mood.
Delia's growing in ways that are going to make her wardrobe difficult. Her current clothes are getting too small in terms of leg and torso length while still being too big in the shoulders (which makes the arms seem too long). We're going to have to go up a size soon, but that will leave her swimming in cloth. It's also becoming harder to swaddle her because the blankets are just too small for her length. All of this wouldn't be a problem if we could keep her feet warm some other way-- Her tee shirts still fit just fine, for example.
Scott and I have developed a weekend routine that provides me with a chance to get a little extra sleep. Basically, he gets up with her once she's up for the day while I go back to bed after feeding Delia. Then he gives her a bottle the next time she's hungry. This has the added benefit of keeping her used to an occasional bottle. So far, she hasn't hesitated in taking it at all.
