Jul. 28th, 2003 02:49 pmAt the La Leche League meeting, I got some help with figuring out how to feed Delia in the cradle hold (with her across the front of my body) as opposed to the football hold (with her along the side of my body). She and I are pretty comfortable with the football hold, but she's getting too long for it. Also, it's not something that I can manage without pillows, so it won't work well when we're out and about, and I think that the cradle hold is more... discreet, shall we say. I show a lot less breast that way.
As it turned out, our difficulties with the cradle hold were fairly easy to resolve. It's a bit more work because my breasts aren't shaped conveniently for having Delia come at them from the front, but once I've got her properly positioned, we can deal with that. The real key was figuring out where to put her. The books all say that the baby should be belly to belly with its mother and more or less parallel to the floor. Delia wants to be almost sitting and turn only her head toward me. As long as it works and doesn't hurt either of us...
