the_rckSaturday, we had another gathering with Scott's family. We celebrated our brother-in-law's birthday and Scott's parents' 40th anniversary. Delia fussed through a lot of the evening, most likely because she hadn't slept much. Fortunately, there were plenty of people willing to hold her and bounce her, so Scott and I didn't have to do all the work. She hardly even slept while we were driving. For some reason, she prefers bumpy roads. I guess the smooth ones don't let her know that she's really moving or something. I never thought I'd wish that a bit of highway hadn't been repaired recently!
Scott made cards for both occasions using pictures of Delia. I keep teasing him about all of his electronic toys (all of which he's using to take pictures of the baby), but I'm pretty impressed by the results. The cards were pretty damn cute, and the website is all that's keeping my parents up to date on Delia's growth.
I think Scott's a bit worried about his mother. Well, actually, I'm sure he is. She told us during the 4th of July gathering that recent tests for something else had revealed a very small growth in her brain. The doctors say it's nothing to worry about, that it's not currently a threat and won't, most likely, become one for a decade or two if ever. It's just something that'll have to be monitored, checked at regular intervals.
I'm glad she told us. I'm not at all certain that my parents would share similar information. Even worse, I suspect that they'd think they'd told me when in fact they hadn't and then wonder why I didn't say anything about it afterward.
Still, the whole thing's a reminder that our parents are not getting younger. Eventually, we're going to lose them. It's not something that either of us dwell on, but we know, and it hurts to think about.
