I've managed to surprise Scott-- He's been joking for weeks about Delia wanting a weasel as a pet ("Weasel" is and has been Scott's favorite word for a few years now. He uses it almost randomly, generally at inappropriate times, just to see if I'm paying attention). I keep saying no, mostly so he knows I'm listening. I suppose it'll be a running joke throughout Delia's childhood.

My sister brought a present for Delia, a very soft stuffed lion. Scott jokingly named it "Weasel," and I went with it. Scott expected me to protest, but the lion is now named Weasel. Scott's now saying that we need to get a stuffed weasel so we can name it "Lion."

At any rate, my sister arrived about 5:30 on Saturday. Scott even had time to shower before she arrived. We hadn't been sure that would be the case since her flight was supposed to reach Metro about 3:30. It just took her a while to pick up her rental car.

Not too surprisingly, she fell in love with Delia instantly. Laura's got no other nieces (or nephews for that matter), so even if Laura didn't like babies (which she does), she'd have been likely to be entranced. Delia was actually in a good mood.

It turned out that Laura's doing the Jenny Craig diet, so she brought a cooler full of food for herself. The only thing she asked of us was that we pick up some skim milk for her (She didn't drink most of it which left us with a bit of a dilemma. Scott and I both have mild dairy allergies. I was prepared to pitch it, but Scott insisted on drinking it).

Eee!

"Weasel" has been the all-purpose pronoun among my local friends for years. It can be substituted for any noun (and most verbs in a pinch). This leads to conversations like:

"Weasel-my-weasel?"

"Yes, hon?"

"Could you bring me the weasel?"

"This?"

"No, the other weasel. Right!"

Small world, innit.
