May. 26th, 2012 11:02 pmMy mother and step-father actually acknowledged my birthday by sending an e-card. I didn't expect that much. My father surprised me by not calling. He didn't call for Delia's birthday, either, so now I'm worried that something's wrong. He's usually pretty reliable in at least that much.
Scott and Delia let me sleep in this morning. I surprised myself by actually falling asleep again and dreaming. I got up at eleven.
Scott made me a toasted cheese sandwich for lunch. Then he and Delia went swimming while I stayed home to work on my Finishathon fic. I watched a little bit of a movie (Quills for those who care), decided it wasn't for me and put it in the bag to take back to the library.
I managed to finish a draft of the fic before we went to dinner. We went to the Flat Top Grill, partly because I like it, partly because I had a coupon for a free meal and partly because it's near to Barnes & Noble. Delia received a Barnes & Noble gift card at her birthday party last week, and she wanted to use it.
Delia bought three books, using up her gift card. Scott bought one book, the junior adaptation of the Avengers movie (Delia wants to read it). I bought a book (Eric Flint and Ryk E. Spoor's Threshold. I bought it in paper so that Scott can easily read it, too) and a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle. I've got a few weeks to work on the puzzle-- We won't need the full table for three and a half weeks, until the next Babylon 5 session. We eat on half the table. The other half is a landing place for junk. I'll clear the junk half and use that for the puzzle.
It's been, all in all, a pleasant and laid back day. There were a couple of things we planned but didn't manage. We'll do that stuff on Monday if the right stores are open. We need a new hose (the old one blew out rather spectacularly yesterday) and new phones for the landline, and Scott wants to buy new locks for our doors. Our current locks are finicky to open from the outside, and the doors often need an extra tug or nudge to latch fully. Scott's hoping that putting in all new hardware will fix that.
