Sep. 20th, 2004 06:37 pmThe playgroup at the public library proved to be a lot of fun for Delia. We've only been once because I hadn't realized it existed before (I hate the navigation on the library's webpage. I keep getting lost). It runs from 10-11am on Fridays and is for the under-2 crowd, no older siblings allowed. The library has a moderate sized room with toddler toys and a door that the kids can't open on their own. I think there were about 20 kids at the session we attended, each with attendant parent.
Delia ran through the crowd, stopping briefly here and there to investigate things. She came back to me every now and then to make sure I still existed. I made that checking in easier by following her because I wanted to make sure she didn't run anybody over or take toys someone else was playing with. I'm going to need to be more careful at future sessions, though-- I ended up pulling a muscle in my chest, probably from playing pick-me-up-put-me-down with Delia.
I intend to make the library playgroup a regular activity, especially since our normal playgroup is becoming less and less reliable (either it doesn't meet or nobody's willing/able to provide transportation for Delia and me). We didn't go last week because I was still sick. There was just no way I could manage the trip or the running around. I hope to go this week, though. We'll have an out of town guest, my mother, so it may not happen, but I plan to try.
I've also been talking a little bit with some other parents in the neighborhood about starting a playgroup. There are now four kids around here between 1 and 2 years old, Delia, Liana, Nathan and Nathaniel. Come winter, it'll be nice to have something structured for them.
