Last Wednesday, Delia's school had their ice cream social. Normally, those are on a Friday, but the date they'd originally picked (back in May) didn't work out for some reason, and they moved it to June 6th.

The weather was beautiful, warm enough to be comfortable without being so hot that it was miserable. I signed up to run the dig for gold game from 6:00-6:30. I ran that at the winter carnival, so I knew what I was getting into. The game wasn't very busy. I think that time slot was a good one to sign up for because people were still arriving and getting oriented. I did get several small kids who couldn't find any pennies in the buckets of seeds. I could see the pennies going by as they dug, but the kids weren't seeing them. I felt bad for the kids.

After that, I took half an hour, had some ice cream and took my meds (must be taken with food). Finding myself at loose ends, I asked the woman coordinating volunteers if she could use me for another shift. She was afraid that the person signed up to run one of the bouncy houses wasn't going to show, so she sent me over there. I was just getting the hang of things when the missing volunteer showed up, so I went back for another assignment. This time, she put me on the craft table-- glitter, glue, feathers and sequins. The kids could, for a fifty cent ticket, decorate a cardboard mask or a paper bag with animals on it. Nobody wanted the bags. I went through all the remaining masks. There were a couple of people who started working right around the time I started at the table and were still working on it when it was time to pack up. I even had two adults decorate masks.

Delia won the cake walk five times, two sets of cupcakes, a plate of cookies, a box of donuts and some pumpkin bread. She mostly didn't play the games. She went into the big bounce house a couple of times with friends.

Thursday morning, Scott had to get up at two and call work to see if they needed him to come in early. Fortunately, they didn't need him, so he was able to come back to bed for a few more hours.

Friday evening, the school did a movie night. They showed E.T. outside, behind the school, so that people could sit around the playground and watch. Scott took Delia to that while I stayed home (I get severe migraines from movies on a big screen, so giving this a miss seemed wise). I wrote quite a bit.

Saturday started early with softball practice. We had to get up as early as if Delia were going to school so that she could get to practice at nine. Scott took her, and I stayed home. Scott got drafted to help with the practice.

Saturday afternoon, Scott took Delia to the county recreation center to go swimming. They were gone for several hours. I spent the time writing.

Sunday, Scott had to work. Delia and I spent the day waiting for a phone call that didn't come. Some people we know from out of town had called on Friday, suggesting a playdate between their daughter and Delia. They said they'd call, and they didn't. I couldn't call them because I don't have their current cell number. Delia went out biking for about five minutes, but it was so hot that she didn't want to spend much time outside. Mostly, she played around on her computer. We need to impose some time limits on that for the summer.

Today was a day of frustrations. Cordelia's class was supposed to take a field trip to a local pool, but it was raining. For most of the morning, it rained just enough to get a person wet without being enough to make one feel justified in putting up an umbrella. The field trip was cancelled at the last minute. Supposedly, they'll go tomorrow, with the fourth and fifth graders. Delia's happy to go but unhappy about the company.

I had my six month dentist appointment. I had to have a little filling put on one of my front teeth. (I have worn the backs of those two teeth so that there's a relatively thin bit left at the top. The fillings there keep falling out because there's nothing to stick to. I keep getting them replaced because I'm afraid of breaking the teeth, but I can go months with a filling missing. This one had been gone for six months.) The filling happened before the cleaning. The whole thing took an hour and a half, about twice as long as I expected. The frustration at the dentist came because they were out of Gel-cam. I use that for sensitivity, and two tubes just lasts me six months. I'm very, very nearly out. They've promised to mail me some as soon as they get it, but who knows how long that will take? If I run out, it'll only take about three days for my teeth to start hurting in response to heat, cold and sweetness.

It was noon when I got out of the dentist, so I stopped at the Brown Jug for a burger. I mostly managed to tune out the multiple TVs that were playing some sort of big deal soccer game, but it was an effort. Still, I wanted that burger.

Then I went to the bubble tea place, expecting to pick some up to take home. Unfortunately, although they were open, they weren't selling anything because their cash register was broken. Why they couldn't use a calculator, I don't know. I'd really been looking forward to bubble tea. It's my standard reward for a dentist appointment, and I really enjoy it.

Delia has softball practice tonight. The rain has let up, and things never got very muddy, so it shouldn't be miserable. This is our last practice at Delia's school. We're going to have to go across town from here on out. I'd better go see about putting something together for dinner.
