I've finished 7 characters for the LARP. 13 remain to be rewritten. I seem to be edging around and doing the easiest first. I think I'm going to come down to the last week of writing and find that all I've got left are the nasty ones, the character sheets I need to gut and start over. I'm a little (more than a little) worried about the process. Now that I've really begun, I *have* to finish. I could have run the game with no changes and just let it be mediocre. It would have hung together pretty much as well as it did in 1994. I'd still have known that it was deeply flawed, but...

I'm scared because I can't run a game that's half revised and half not (or any fractions done and not, for that matter). I think the changes will make for a better game, but it's definitely not easy, especially when what's changed about a character is not factual but more... the slant of things. I write each character in second person and work hard to get the voice right because I find that to be one of the best ways to show the players how the characters think. When a character changes from being a rebellious renegade to being a deep cover agent pretending to be a rebellious renegade, very few facts of the character change, but all the biases shift, all the priorities, even the vocabulary. That's a harder rewrite to do than simply adding a few bits of information.
