I have a lot of my Christmas shopping done. I need to come up with something for Scott and something for a couple of friends, but 90% of my other shopping is done. I'm a bit frustrated, though. I keep trying to order things for my half-sister and her mother, only to find that the order can't go through for one reason or another. For example, I found some stuff from the Hunger Site that I thought they'd like, but the site claimed that their zip code was outside of the possible delivery zone. I hadn't thought it was so far to Albuquerque... I even double checked with the Post Office website to make sure I had the zip code right. It must be a glitch in the program for the Hunger Site's store.

I tried Swiss Colony (where I'd ordered presents for my other geographically distant relatives) only to be told that the gift I selected is now out of stock indefinitely and that they *might* be able to ship it at the end of January. I hate this. I'd like to be able to focus on making sure that Scott's doing the shopping for his side of the family (and picking up whatever slack is caused by the unexpected overtime his job's been requiring recently). And selecting goodies for Delia, of course.

This sister and her mother are not easy to shop for because I don't know them all that well. I like and love them both, but I see my sister maybe once a year if I'm lucky, and I'm 23 years older than she is. Her mother, I see even less often. I know that she's a woman of strong principles, but I don't know what all of them are. Fair trade issues enter into it, I know, as does an awareness of political events generally, but that's kind of vague. I also don't know all of the allergies that they have between them, just that wheat and dairy are included. I believe that they don't eat red meat, and I *think* they're Wiccan, but...

The situation this year is complicated by the fact that my sister begged for an early monetary gift to help her go to Spain with her Spanish class for spring break. I sent one, so I want to give her a token I'm-thinking-of-you sort of thing and find something nice for her mother. I prefer to mail order and get the gift shipped direct because that decreases the number of times I have to bundle up myself and Delia to go out. If I never have to take toddler Delia into the Post Office on my own (especially during the holidays), I'll be considerably happier.
