Scott's employer had a Christmas party this afternoon. We went and stayed maybe half an hour, more a token appearance than anything else. The company had gotten a bowling alley for the afternoon. It was loud, and several people were smoking. There was food that neither Delia nor I could eat and a lot of people neither of us knew.
We had about half an hour's drive to get there, and Delia fell asleep on the way. She was highly displeased when we woke her while getting her out of the car. A cold wind is a miserable way to wake up. It was about fifteen minutes before she quite managed to orient herself and start having fun exploring.
She sat briefly on Santa's lap and cried very loudly in protest. If we been able to wait a little longer, I think she wouldn't have minded, but that was within five minutes of our arrival (Santa was only there a little while. He packed up about the time Delia finally decided that this new place wasn't so bad after all).
Finally, we found a place where I could sit down, and she promptly climbed into my lap and cuddled up. Then Scott offered her a cookie. (We've found one brand that's safe, Anna's. They're quite expensive, but I like them a lot. They're thin, crisp cookies. We're trying all of their flavors. Ginger and blueberry are the winners so far. Lemon was mediocre but not bad dipped in tea. Orange was a bit better. We haven't tried cherry yet. Hopefully, it'll be a winner.) For some reason, that reassured her. She ate half the cookie then dropped the rest and started exploring.
She didn't sleep on the return trip. When we got her home, we offered more food, and I nursed her. Then I put her down in hopes that she'd nap. She's still actively playing in her crib now, nearly an hour later, so I'm not sure we'll have any real success in that direction. Oh, well... Never know till we try.
