Right. I meant to write a journal entry a lot sooner than this. Now I've lost track of most of the things I wanted to write about, mostly Delia details. She's changed so much over the last few months (which, of course, has been true of any period of two to three months in her life, so no big news there). Anyway, I'm going to post random-ish bits and pieces over the next couple of days, addressing whatever bits of the last couple of months come to mind.

Delia turned two on Tuesday the 17th. Scott took the day off work, and we had some family time. We took Delia to the local natural history museum, just as an experiment and then went to Penney's for photographs.

I think Delia enjoyed herself, but the natural history museum may not have been the best choice. She's not ready yet to look at anything for more than a few seconds, and the place was packed with field trip groups. The few things that Delia really wanted to get at tended to be mobbed. Oh, well. We wanted to try something new, and the museum might be something that she'd enjoy when it's less crowded (more because there's space for her to wander than anything else, I'm afraid), though, and it's on one of the bus routes that passes near our house, so it'd be easy enough for me to take her there. (We also got to see [livejournal.com profile] wheloc at work and exchange a few words with him. It's been too long.)

Scott stopped in at the gift shop and bought Delia a dinosaur which she now calls 'Happy Birthday.' She kept it with her all day and still likes playing with it.

In the evening, we took Delia to Blue Nile for dinner. She ate pretty well, for her, but mostly, she wandered around the place, dancing, grinning at other guests and the waitstaff, and generally having fun. Fortunately, nobody seemed bothered by it. Scott did most of the Delia chasing because he was less hungry than I was. We got a high chair but didn't end up using it. Instead, Delia sat on the bench next to me while she ate.

Scott baked an apple pie as a substitute birthday cake, but he and I were too full and Delia too tired to do anything with it on the 17th. Instead, we put candles on it at dinner time on the 18th and sang "Happy Birthday" to Delia then. She managed to eat almost all of a slice of pie (she was less thrilled with the crust than with the filling, so she left some of that behind). The next day, she kept asking for more, and I'd tell her that she could have some with dinner. Of course, for a two year old, 'tonight with dinner' is impossibly far away.
