We missed Mother's Day with Scott's family because Delia woke up from her nap that day with a fever, 102.2 under her arm. The next several days weren't much fun for either her or me, and we ended up taking her to the doctor on Tuesday. I was fairly sure that it was roseola, but we wanted to be sure. The doctor agreed with us, once she confirmed that there weren't any other symptoms. We did subject Delia to the indignity of catheterization in order to get a urine specimen to check for a urinary tract infection (I felt dreadful about that. She was outraged and upset) because that was the other possibility. Fortunately, that came back negative.

The fever went away on Wednesday, and she developed a few small spots of rash over the next few days, so we're pretty sure now that the whole thing was roseola after all. She also started a bit of a cold on Thursday, an occasional cough and occasional runny nose plus a tendency to hoarseness when speaking, but that seems to be unrelated to the fever and rash. I'm looking forward to calmer nights, again soon, but who knows?

During the fever, Delia started wanting to sleep on my shoulder rather than in her crib. That meant less sleep for me but no less than if I'd just let her cry. She seems only to want that level of contact when something's wrong, so I'm not in danger of her sleeping there permanently or anything. And, apart from the lost sleep, there's something sweet and comforting for me in holding her like that.

Scott gave me the first two seasons of The West Wing for Mother's Day. We haven't watched much of it yet, but we're both looking forward to it. I suspect we'll start by working our way through the extras before going back and watching everything straight through.

To make up for Mother's Day, we spent the following Sunday with Scott's parents (they decided that they could risk the cold). Delia didn't nap that day, but she was at her best anyway. She loves their new house because it's full of rooms to explore. She actually spent some time down in their basement with just her grandmother, something she'd never have done a few months ago (This was after we'd been there a few hours and she'd had time to get used to the almost strangers).
