May. 26th, 2005 02:21 pmScott's sister has passed on her two potty seats to us. I'm not sure what we'll do with two, but this does give us a choice of models. We've decided that we need to start discussing the subject with Delia because she's taken to stripping herself naked while in her crib. Once, she did that and peed on her pillow, and twice, she's done it and pooped. That wouldn't be so awful except that, like most toddlers who do such things, she thinks poop is fun to play with.
We've been telling her "The diaper stays on" over and over again. She'll repeat it now while she pulls on the tabs of her diaper. Other parents who've had similar problems don't seem to have any workable solutions. Duct tape is, I hope, a joke, but it's also kind of tempting. So far, Delia's only done the poop thing when both Scott and I have been home, but most days, it's just me and her. I've been dreading it because I don't think I could clean it up on my own.
Scott's sister also passed along a book about a little girl named Prudence learning to use a potty seat. Delia's gone through it several times, but she won't let us read all of it to her (she wants to turn the pages before we get through the text). She has, however, taken to quoting part of it and yelling, "Bye-bye pee! Bye-bye poop!" when she's in her crib. So far as we've been able to determine, it doesn't mean anything relative to the current contents of her diaper.
Delia's also taken to climbing on the potty seats and standing on them as well as trying to disassemble them. I haven't tried sitting her on one yet. I think *I'm* not ready yet.

Date: 2005-05-26 07:08 pm (UTC)You might want to consider having "naked baby time" after baths or potty time, when it's relatively safe. (And when Scott is home.) Other times can be *not* naked baby time, when the diaper needs to stay on. Of course, as you know, 2-year-olds aren't the best people in the world for remembering rules.
