Aug. 7th, 2005 04:24 pmThis is just a quick entry to give a few snippets of news.
First, I'm finally feeling better. I've been off the asthma medications for about ten days now, and I'm not coughing anymore. My stamina's still not what it was before the illness. I'm working on that, slowly, and I can at least take Delia out for walks now.
Second, tonight Scott will be doing some long needed repairs on my laptop. If all goes well, I'll be back up by the end of the evening. If not... Well, I'm trying not to go there, but if I'm not on AIM or answering e-mail for a while, you'll know why.
Third, I've finished the first draft of chapter 15 of "Rheotaxis." (I suspect that it's actually going to end up being chapters 15 and 16, but that remains to be seen.) It's very, very rough and will likely need more than one rewrite, but I should have it done in another 2-3 weeks. Assuming a functional laptop.
Fouth, Delia seems to be working toward giving up her nap. I'm fighting this trend at the moment because she still seems to need it (not to mention that *I* need it), but I doubt I'll end up all that successful.

Date: 2005-08-09 01:06 am (UTC)My mother's suggested instituting a "quiet playtime" every afternoon by just putting her into her crib or room even if we don't expect her to nap. That's more or less what happens when she doesn't nap, but I'm still hesitant to do things like shower while she's awake.

Date: 2005-08-08 10:32 pm (UTC)Did you ever take a nap when Delia does? Is she afraid to miss something (whether with you or in general)? I wonder if you could convince her she's not missing anything.
I can really relate. M is trying to give up her weekend naps, but ends up pooping out and taking one eventually. This past weekend she didn't take one on Sat and on Sun she fought it until about 3 when she fell asleep on me and then snoozed for 3.5 hours on the couch. She apparently takes naps during the week fine at school (a positive peer pressure result!).

Date: 2005-08-09 01:03 am (UTC)I don't tend to take naps when Delia because it's almost impossible for me to nap unless I'm sick (there are some logistical problems, too, but they verge on TMI). Usually, I do things like wash dishes or watch a DVD while she's napping. That's also a good time for me to write or read or otherwise do things I don't have the attention for otherwise (this often includes eating and drinking...).
Delia usually doesn't poop out when she skips her nap. She *can* make it until bedtime as long as nothing forces her to stop moving in a boring environment (she'll fall asleep in seconds in the car, but can sit on the couch watching people or the TV without nodding off). My mother has suggested that we just work at establishing a quiet time when she plays in her crib/room for a couple of hours in the afternoons so that I don't lose my opportunity to regroup.
We need to talk about times that might work for getting our girls together again. I'm clear on most Monday evenings and some Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Thursdays are iffier, and I seem to recall that Fridays are bad for you. Saturdays are unpredictable until the day before. If Scott's working, they're wide open, but if he's not then he usually spends the day with Delia.
E-mail me please, and we can talk about it.
